David renvoyé à Tsiqlag par les princes des Philistins
29 Les Philistins concentrèrent toutes leurs troupes à Apheq, tandis qu’Israël était campé près de la source de Jizréel[a]. 2 Les cinq princes des Philistins défilèrent en tête de leurs unités, des « centaines » et des « milliers », et David et ses hommes formaient l’arrière-garde autour d’Akish. 3 Les princes des Philistins demandèrent : Que font ici ces Hébreux ?
Akish leur répondit : Ne reconnaissez-vous pas David qui avait été au service de Saül, roi d’Israël, mais qui, depuis un an ou deux, est chez moi ? Depuis qu’il s’est rallié à nous, je n’ai jamais rien eu à lui reprocher.
4 Mais les princes des Philistins se fâchèrent contre Akish et lui dirent : Renvoie cet homme dans la ville que tu lui as assignée. Il ne faut pas qu’il participe avec nous au combat, sinon il pourrait se retourner contre nous avec ses hommes en pleine bataille. N’est-ce pas au prix de la tête de nos gens qu’il pourrait regagner la faveur de son souverain ? 5 N’oublions pas que c’est pour David que les femmes chantaient en dansant : « Saül a frappé ses milliers, et David ses dizaines de milliers[b]. »
6 Finalement, Akish appela David et lui dit : Aussi vrai que l’Eternel est vivant, tu es un homme juste et j’aurais aimé que tu prennes part avec moi à cette expédition militaire, car je n’ai jamais rien eu à te reprocher, depuis que tu es venu chez moi jusqu’à ce jour ; mais tu n’es pas bien vu des autres princes philistins. 7 Maintenant donc, repars en paix chez toi, pour ne pas les indisposer.
8 David lui dit : Mais qu’ai-je donc fait pour que je ne puisse pas aller combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi ? Qu’as-tu trouvé à reprocher à ton serviteur depuis le jour où je me suis mis à ton service jusqu’à maintenant ?
9 Akish répondit à David : Je le sais bien, car je t’ai apprécié comme un ange de Dieu ; seulement, les princes des Philistins m’ont dit : « Il ne participera pas à la bataille avec nous » ! 10 Maintenant, lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître, qui sont venus avec toi[c]. Levez-vous de bon matin dès qu’il fera clair et partez.
11 Le lendemain, David et ses hommes se levèrent de bonne heure pour se mettre en route et regagner la Philistie, tandis que les Philistins montèrent vers Jizréel.

29 Y LOS Filisteos juntaron todos sus campos en Aphec; é Israel puso su campo junto á la fuente que está en Jezreel.
2 Y reconociendo los príncipes de los Filisteos sus compañías de á ciento y de á mil hombres, David y los suyos iban en los postreros con Achîs.
3 Y dijeron los príncipes de los Filisteos: ¿Qué hacen aquí estos Hebreos? Y Achîs respondió á los príncipes de los Filisteos: ¿No es éste David, el siervo de Saúl rey de Israel, que ha estado conmigo algunos días ó algunos años, y no he hallado cosa en él desde el día que se pasó á mí hasta hoy?
4 Entonces los príncipes de los Filisteos se enojaron contra él, y dijéronle: Envía á este hombre, que se vuelva al lugar que le señalaste, y no venga con nosotros á la batalla, no sea que en la batalla se nos vuelva enemigo: porque ¿con qué cosa volvería mejor á la gracia de su señor que con las cabezas de estos hombres?
5 ¿No es este David de quien cantaba en los corros, diciendo: Saúl hirió sus miles, Y David sus diez miles?
6 Y Achîs llamó á David, y díjole: Vive Jehová, que tú has sido recto, y que me ha parecido bien tu salida y entrada en el campo conmigo, y que ninguna cosa mala he hallado en ti desde el día que viniste á mí hasta hoy: mas en los ojos de los príncipes no agradas.
7 Vuélvete pues, y vete en paz; y no hagas lo malo en los ojos de los príncipes de los Filisteos.
8 Y David respondió á Achîs: ¿Qué he hecho? ¿qué has hallado en tu siervo desde el día que estoy contigo hasta hoy, para que yo no vaya y pelee contra los enemigos de mi señor el rey?
9 Y Achîs respondió á David, y dijo: Yo sé que tú eres bueno en mis ojos, como un ángel de Dios; mas los príncipes de los Filisteos han dicho: No venga con nosotros á la batalla.
10 Levántate pues de mañana, tú y los siervos de tu señor que han venido contigo; y levantándoos de mañana, luego al amanecer partíos.
11 Y levantóse David de mañana, él y los suyos, para irse y volverse á la tierra de los Filisteos; y los Filisteos fueron á Jezreel.

Los filisteos desconfían de David
29 Los filisteos reunieron a todas sus tropas en Afec. Los israelitas, por su parte, acamparon junto al manantial que está en Jezrel. 2 Los jefes de los filisteos avanzaban en compañías de cien y de mil soldados, seguidos de Aquis y de David y sus hombres.
3 —Y estos hebreos, ¿qué hacen aquí? —preguntaron los comandantes filisteos.
Aquis respondió:
—¿No se dan cuenta de que este es David, quien antes estuvo al servicio de Saúl, rey de Israel? Hace ya más de un año que está conmigo, y desde el primer día que se unió a nosotros no he visto nada que me haga desconfiar de él.
4 Pero los comandantes filisteos, enojados con Aquis, le exigieron:
—Despídelo; que regrese al lugar que le diste. No dejes que nos acompañe en la batalla, no sea que en medio del combate se vuelva contra nosotros. ¿Qué mejor manera tendría de reconciliarse con su señor, que llevándole las cabezas de estos soldados? 5 ¿Acaso no es este el David por quien danzaban, y en sus cantos decían:
«Saúl mató a sus miles;
pero David, a sus diez miles»?
6 Ante esto, Aquis llamó a David y dijo:
—Tan cierto como que el Señor vive, tú eres un hombre honrado y me gustaría que me acompañaras en esta campaña. Desde el día en que llegaste, no he visto nada que me haga desconfiar de ti. Pero los jefes filisteos te miran con recelo. 7 Así que, con mis mejores deseos, vuélvete a tu casa y no hagas nada que les desagrade.
8 —Pero ¿qué es lo que he hecho? —reclamó David—. ¿Qué falla ha visto usted en este servidor suyo desde el día en que entré a su servicio hasta hoy? ¿Por qué no me permiten luchar contra los enemigos de mi señor el rey?
9 —Ya lo sé —respondió Aquis—. Para mí tú eres como un ángel de Dios. Sin embargo, los comandantes filisteos han decidido que no vayas con nosotros a la batalla. 10 Por lo tanto, levántense mañana temprano, tú y los siervos de tu señor que vinieron contigo, y váyanse con la primera luz del día.
11 Así que al día siguiente David y sus hombres se levantaron temprano para regresar al país filisteo. Por su parte, los filisteos avanzaron hacia Jezrel.

29 The Philistines ·gathered [mobilized; mustered] all their soldiers at Aphek. Israel camped by the spring at Jezreel. 2 The Philistine ·kings [rulers; lords] were marching with their groups of ·a hundred [hundreds] and ·a thousand men [thousands]. David and his men were marching ·behind [or at the rear with] Achish. 3 The Philistine commanders asked, “What are these Hebrews doing here?”
Achish told them, “·This is David. He [L Is this not David who…?] served Saul king of Israel, but he has been with me for ·over a year now [L days and years]. I have found nothing wrong in David since the time he ·left Saul [L deserted until today].”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send David back to the ·city you gave him [place you assigned him]. He cannot go with us into battle. If he does, ·we’ll have an enemy in our own camp [L he may become an adversary to us]. He could ·please [make himself acceptable to/reconcile himself to] his king ·by killing our own [with the heads of these] men. 5 ·David is [L Is not David…?] the one the Israelites dance and sing about, saying:
“‘Saul has ·killed thousands of his enemies [T slain his thousands],
·but [and] David has ·killed [T slain his] tens of thousands [18:7].’”
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you ·are loyal [have been trustworthy/reliable/honest]. I would be pleased to have you ·serve in my army [march into battle]. Since the day you came to me [L until the present], I have found no ·wrong [fault; evil] in you. But the other ·kings [rulers; lords] don’t ·trust [approve of] you. 7 Go back in peace. Don’t do anything ·to displease [L evil in the eyes/sight of] the Philistine ·kings [rulers; lords].”
8 David asked, “What ·wrong have [have] I done? What ·evil have [have] you found in ·me [L your servant] from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go fight your enemies, my lord ·and [the] king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know you are as ·good [pleasing to me] as an angel from God. But the Philistine commanders have said, ‘David must not go with us into battle.’ 10 Early in the morning you and your master’s servants should leave. Get up as soon as it is light and go.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning and went back to the country of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag
29 The Philistines gathered(A) all their forces at Aphek,(B) and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.(C) 2 As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear(D) with Achish. 3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David,(E) who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year,(F) and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send(G) the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn(H) against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? 5 Isn’t this the David they sang about in their dances:
“‘Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands’?”(I)
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day(J) you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers(K) don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel(L) of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders(M) have said, ‘He must not go up with us into battle.’ 10 Now get up early, along with your master’s servants who have come with you, and leave(N) in the morning as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
