Los filisteos desconfían de David
29 Los filisteos juntaron todas sus fuerzas en Afec, e Israel acampó junto a la fuente que está en Jezreel. 2 Y cuando los príncipes de los filisteos pasaban revista a sus compañías de a ciento y de a mil hombres, David y sus hombres iban en la retaguardia con Aquis. 3 Y dijeron los príncipes de los filisteos: ¿Qué hacen aquí estos hebreos? Y Aquis respondió a los príncipes de los filisteos: ¿No es este David, el siervo de Saúl rey de Israel, que ha estado conmigo por días y años, y no he hallado falta en él desde el día que se pasó a mí hasta hoy? 4 Entonces los príncipes de los filisteos se enojaron contra él, y le dijeron: Despide a este hombre, para que se vuelva al lugar que le señalaste, y no venga con nosotros a la batalla, no sea que en la batalla se nos vuelva enemigo; porque ¿con qué cosa volvería mejor a la gracia de su señor que con las cabezas de estos hombres? 5 ¿No es este David, de quien cantaban en las danzas, diciendo:
Saúl hirió a sus miles,
Y David a sus diez miles?(A)
6 Y Aquis llamó a David y le dijo: Vive Jehová, que tú has sido recto, y que me ha parecido bien tu salida y tu entrada en el campamento conmigo, y que ninguna cosa mala he hallado en ti desde el día que viniste a mí hasta hoy; mas a los ojos de los príncipes no agradas. 7 Vuélvete, pues, y vete en paz, para no desagradar a los príncipes de los filisteos. 8 Y David respondió a Aquis: ¿Qué he hecho? ¿Qué has hallado en tu siervo desde el día que estoy contigo hasta hoy, para que yo no vaya y pelee contra los enemigos de mi señor el rey? 9 Y Aquis respondió a David, y dijo: Yo sé que tú eres bueno ante mis ojos, como un ángel de Dios; pero los príncipes de los filisteos me han dicho: No venga con nosotros a la batalla. 10 Levántate, pues, de mañana, tú y los siervos de tu señor que han venido contigo; y levantándoos al amanecer, marchad. 11 Y se levantó David de mañana, él y sus hombres, para irse y volver a la tierra de los filisteos; y los filisteos fueron a Jezreel.

Achish Makes David Leave the Battle
29 Then (A)the Philistines gathered together all their camps to (B)Aphek, while the Israelites were camping by the spring which is in (C)Jezreel. 2 And the lords of the Philistines were proceeding on by hundreds and by thousands, and (D)David and his men were proceeding on in the rear with Achish. 3 Then the commanders of the Philistines said, “What are these Hebrews doing here?” And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, “Is this not David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, (E)who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and (F)I have found no fault in him from the day he [a]deserted to me to this day?” 4 But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him, and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, “Make the man return, that he may return (G)to his place where you have assigned him, and do not let him go down to battle with us, (H)or in the battle he may become an adversary to us. For with what could this man make himself acceptable to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of [b]these men? 5 Is this not David, (I)of whom they sing in the dances, saying,
‘Saul has struck his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
6 Then Achish called David and said to him, “As Yahweh lives, you have been upright, and (J)your going out and your coming in with me in the camp are pleasing in my sight; (K)for I have not found evil in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, you are not pleasing in the sight of the lords. 7 So now, return and go in peace, that you may not do evil in the sight of the lords of the Philistines.” 8 And David said to Achish, “(L)But what have I done? And what have you found in your servant from the day when I came before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?” 9 But Achish answered and said to David, “I know that you are pleasing in my sight, (M)like an angel of God; nevertheless (N)the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He must not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 So now, arise early in the morning (O)with the servants of your lord who have come with you, and as soon as you have arisen early in the morning and have light, go.” 11 So David arose early, he and his men, to go in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

29 The Philistines assembled all their forces at Aphek, and the Israelites camped by the spring in Jezreel. 2 As the Philistine rulers went out marching in units of hundreds and thousands, David and his soldiers were in the rear with Achish.
3 “Who are these Hebrews?” the Philistine commanders asked.
“That’s David,” Achish told them, “the servant of Israel’s King Saul. He’s been with me a year or so now. I haven’t found anything wrong with him from the day he defected until now.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish. “Send the man home!” they told Achish. “He can go back to the place you gave him, but he won’t go with us into battle. Couldn’t he turn against us in the middle of the fight? How better to please his former master than by taking the heads of our soldiers? 5 After all, this is the same David people sing about in their dances,
‘Saul has killed his thousands,
but David has killed his tens of thousands!’”
6 So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you are an upstanding individual. I would very much like you to serve with me in the army because I haven’t found anything wrong with you from the day you came to me until now. But the rulers don’t approve of you. 7 So go back home now, and go in peace. Don’t do anything to upset the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” David asked Achish. “What wrong have you found in me, your servant, from the day I came to you until now? Why shouldn’t I go and fight the enemies of my master the king?”
9 “I agree,” Achish answered David. “I think you’re as good as one of God’s own messengers. Despite that, the Philistine commanders have ordered, ‘He can’t go into battle with us.’ 10 So get up early in the morning, both you and your master’s servants who came with you, and return to the place I gave you. Don’t worry about this negative report, because you’ve done well before me.[a] Now get up early in the morning and leave as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his soldiers got up early in the morning to go back to Philistine territory, but the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag
29 The Philistines gathered(A) all their forces at Aphek,(B) and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.(C) 2 As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear(D) with Achish. 3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David,(E) who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year,(F) and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send(G) the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn(H) against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? 5 Isn’t this the David they sang about in their dances:
“‘Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands’?”(I)
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day(J) you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers(K) don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel(L) of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders(M) have said, ‘He must not go up with us into battle.’ 10 Now get up early, along with your master’s servants who have come with you, and leave(N) in the morning as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
