Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag
29 The Philistines gathered(A) all their forces at Aphek,(B) and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.(C) 2 As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear(D) with Achish. 3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David,(E) who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year,(F) and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send(G) the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn(H) against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? 5 Isn’t this the David they sang about in their dances:
“‘Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands’?”(I)
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day(J) you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers(K) don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel(L) of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders(M) have said, ‘He must not go up with us into battle.’ 10 Now get up early, along with your master’s servants who have come with you, and leave(N) in the morning as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

29 Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in Jezreel.
2 And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish.
3 Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day?
4 And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
5 Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
6 Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
7 Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.
8 And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
9 And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
10 Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart.
11 So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

Os filisteus desconfiam de Davi
29 Os filisteus reuniram seus soldados em Afeque, enquanto os israelitas acampavam junto ao manancial que está em Jezreel. 2 Os líderes filisteus avançaram em companhias de 100 e de 1.000 homens, seguidos por Aquis e Davi com seus homens.
3 Os generais filisteus perguntaram:
—O que estão fazendo aqui estes hebreus?
Aquis disse aos generais:
—É Davi. Ele antes era um dos oficiais de Saul, mas tem estado comigo por muito tempo, e nunca vi nada que me fizesse desconfiar dele.
4 Mas os generais filisteus ficaram chateados com Aquis e disseram:
—Ordene que ele regresse à cidade que você lhe deu. Ele não pode nos acompanhar na batalha. Por acaso não vê que faríamos um inimigo em nosso próprio grupo? Ele poderia ganhar a benevolência do seu rei matando nossos homens. 5 Esse é o Davi do qual os israelitas dançavam e cantavam:
“Saul matou 1.000,
mas Davi matou 10.000”.
6 Então Aquis chamou Davi e disse:
—Tão certo como o SENHOR vive, que você é leal a mim, e gostaria que me servisse no meu exército. Não tenho tido nada para desconfiar de você desde o primeiro dia que você chegou e também os líderes filisteus pensam bem de você.[a] 7 Volte para sua casa e não faça nada que desagrade os líderes filisteus.
8 Davi perguntou:
—Mas que mal tenho feito? Tem algo, Sua Majestade, para desconfiar de mim desde que eu cheguei? Por que não me permite combater contra os inimigos de Sua Majestade?
9 Aquis respondeu:
—Eu sei que você é um bom homem, como um anjo de Deus, mas os generais filisteus insistiram que você não nos acompanhasse na batalha. 10 Cedo pela manhã, você e seus homens deverão regressar à cidade que lhe dei, e não faça caso do que os generais dizem de você. Você é um bom homem; portanto, volte assim que amanhecer.
11 Na manhã seguinte Davi e seus homens partiram rumo ao território filisteu, enquanto os filisteus avançaram para Jezreel.

And Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Is this not David, the servant of Saul king of Israel, who has been with me (E)these days, or these years? And to this day I have (F)found no fault in him since he defected to me.”
4 But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; so the princes of the Philistines said to him, (G)“Make this fellow return, that he may go back to the place which you have appointed for him, and do not let him go down with us to (H)battle, lest (I)in the battle he become our adversary. For with what could he reconcile himself to his master, if not with the heads of these (J)men? 5 Is this not David, (K)of whom they sang to one another in dances, saying:

6 Then Achish called David and said to him, “Surely, as the Lord lives, you have been upright, and (M)your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight. Nevertheless the lords do not favor you. 7 Therefore return now, and go in peace, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.”
8 So David said to Achish, “But what have I done? And to this day what have you found in your servant as long as I have been with you, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Then Achish answered and said to David, “I know that you are as good in my sight (O)as an angel of God; nevertheless (P)the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 Now therefore, rise early in the morning with your master’s servants (Q)who have come with [b]you. And as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart.”
11 So David and his men rose early to depart in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. (R)And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

And the Israelites were encamped by (C)the spring that is in (D)Jezreel. 2 As (E)the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing on in the rear (F)with Achish, 3 the commanders of the Philistines said, “What are these Hebrews doing here?” And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, “Is this not David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me (G)now for days and years, and since he deserted to me (H)I have found no fault in him to this day.” 4 But (I)the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him. And the commanders of the Philistines said to him, “Send the man back, that he may return (J)to the place to which you have assigned him. He shall not go down with us to battle, (K)lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here? 5 Is not this David, of whom they sing to one another in dances,
(L)‘Saul has struck down his thousands,
and David his ten thousands’?”
6 Then Achish called David and said to him, (M)“As the Lord lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that (N)you should march out and in with me in the campaign. For I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not approve of you. 7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.” 8 And David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?” 9 And Achish answered David and said, “I know that you are as blameless in my sight (O)as an angel of God. Nevertheless, (P)the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 Now then rise early in the morning (Q)with the servants of your lord who came with you, and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light.” 11 So David set out with his men early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to (R)Jezreel.
