27 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.
4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.
5 And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
6 Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
7 And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8 And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
9 And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.
10 And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.
11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.
12 And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

27 Con todo, David pensaba: «Un día de estos voy a morir a manos de Saúl. Lo mejor que puedo hacer es huir a la tierra de los filisteos. Así Saúl se cansará de buscarme por el territorio de Israel, y podré escapar de sus manos».
2 Acompañado de sus seiscientos hombres, David se puso en marcha y se trasladó a la tierra de Gat, donde reinaba Aquis, hijo de Maoc. 3 Tanto David como sus hombres se establecieron allí, y quedaron bajo la protección de Aquis. Cada hombre había llevado a su familia y David tenía consigo a sus dos esposas, Ajinoán la jezrelita y Abigaíl de Carmel, la viuda de Nabal. 4 En efecto, cuando Saúl se enteró de que David había huido a Gat, dejó de perseguirlo.
5 David dijo a Aquis: «Si en verdad cuento con su favor, le ruego que me conceda algún pueblo en el campo para vivir allí. No tiene ningún sentido que este siervo suyo viva contigo en la capital del reino».
6 Aquel mismo día Aquis le dio la ciudad de Siclag, la cual hasta hoy pertenece a los reyes de Judá. 7 David vivió en territorio filisteo un año y cuatro meses.
8 Acostumbraba a salir en campaña con sus hombres para saquear a los guesureos, guirzitas y amalecitas, pueblos que durante mucho tiempo habían habitado la zona que se extiende hacia Sur y hasta el país de Egipto. 9 Cada vez que David atacaba la región, no dejaba a nadie con vida, ni hombre ni mujer. Antes de regresar adonde estaba Aquis se apoderaba de ovejas, vacas, asnos y camellos, y hasta de la ropa que vestían.
10 Si Aquis preguntaba: «¿Qué región saqueaste hoy?», David respondía: «La del sur de Judá»; o bien: «La del sur de Jeramel»; o «La del sur, donde viven los quenitas». 11 David no dejaba con vida ni a hombre ni a mujer, pues pensaba que si llevaba prisioneros a Gat lo denunciarían por lo que estaba haciendo. Este fue su patrón de conducta todo el tiempo que estuvo en territorio filisteo. 12 Aquis, por su parte, confiaba en David y se decía: «David se está haciendo odioso a los israelitas, su propia gente. Sin duda me servirá para siempre».

David Flees to the Philistines
27 Then David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.” 2 So David arose and went over, he and (A)the six hundred men who were with him, (B)to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3 And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with (C)his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal's widow. 4 And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he no longer sought him.
5 Then David said to Achish, “If (D)I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” 6 So that day Achish gave him (E)Ziklag. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. 7 (F)And the number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.
8 Now David (G)and his men went up and made raids against (H)the Geshurites, (I)the Girzites, and (J)the Amalekites, for these were the inhabitants of the land from of old, (K)as far as Shur, to the land of Egypt. 9 And David would strike the land and would leave neither man nor woman alive, but would take away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the garments, and come back to Achish. 10 When Achish asked, “Where have you (L)made a raid today?” David would say, “Against the Negeb of Judah,” or, “Against the Negeb of (M)the Jerahmeelites,” or, “Against the Negeb of (N)the Kenites.” 11 And David would leave neither man nor woman alive to bring news to Gath, thinking, “lest they should tell about us and say, ‘So David has done.’” Such was his custom all the while he lived in the country of the Philistines. 12 And Achish trusted David, thinking, “He has made himself an utter stench to his people Israel; therefore he shall always be my servant.”
