1 Samuel 27

27 1 but he thought to himself, “One of these days, Saul is going to kill me. The only way to escape from him is to go to Philistia. Then I'll be outside of Israel, and Saul will give up trying to catch me.”
2-3 David and his 600 men went across the border to stay in Gath with King Achish the son of Maoch. His men brought their families with them. David brought his wife Ahinoam whose hometown was Jezreel, and he also brought his wife Abigail who had been married to Nabal from Carmel. 4 When Saul found out that David had run off to Gath, he stopped trying to catch him.
5 One day, David was talking with Achish and said, “If you are happy with me, then let me live in one of the towns in the countryside. I'm not important enough to live here with you in the royal city.”
6 Achish gave David the town of Ziklag that same day, and Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah ever since.
7 David was in Philistia for a year and four months. 8 The Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites lived in the area from Telam to Shur[a] and on as far as Egypt, and David often attacked their towns. 9 Whenever David and his men attacked a town, they took the sheep, cattle, donkeys, camels, and the clothing, and killed everyone who lived there.
After he returned from a raid, David always went to see Achish, 10 who would ask, “Where did you attack today?”[b]
David would answer, “Oh, we attacked some desert town that belonged to the Judah tribe.” Sometimes David would say, “Oh, we attacked a town in the desert where the Jerahmeel clan lives” or “We attacked a town in the desert where the Kenites[c] live.” 11 That's why David killed everyone in the towns he attacked. He thought, “If I let any of them live, they might come to Gath and tell what I've really been doing.”
David made these raids all the time he was in Philistia. 12 But Achish trusted David and thought, “David's people must be furious with him. From now on he will have to take orders from me.”

David hade med sig sina båda hustrur, Achinoam från Jisreel och Navals änka Avigajil från Karmel. 4 När Saul fick reda på att David hade flytt till Gat, slutade han att jaga honom.
5 En dag sa David till Akish: ”Om du ser välvilligt på mig, låt mig då få bosätta mig i någon av städerna ute på landsbygden i stället för att bo här i huvudstaden hos dig, min herre!” 6 Kungen gav honom då Siklag som än i dag tillhör judakungarna 7 och David bodde där bland filistéerna i ett år och fyra månader.
8 David och hans män anföll och plundrade geshuréerna, girséerna och amalekiterna, folk som sedan lång tid tillbaka levde nära Shur längs vägen till Egypten. 9 De lät inte en enda människa, vare sig man eller kvinna, komma undan med livet i behåll i de byar de plundrade och de tog med sig alla får, oxar, åsnor och kameler och alla kläder de kom över. Sedan återvände han till Akish. 10 När Akish frågade: ”Vart gick ert plundringståg i dag?”, brukade David svara: ”Mot Judas del av Negev”, eller: ”Mot Jerachmeels”, eller: ”Mot keniternas.”[a] 11 Han lämnade ju inga överlevande kvar som kunde komma till Gat och berätta vad David egentligen hade gjort.
Så gick David till väga under hela den tid han bodde bland filistéerna. 12 Och kung Akish trodde på David och tog för givet att Israels folk vid det här laget måste hata honom bittert. Därför tänkte han: ”Nu måste David stanna här och tjäna mig för alltid!”

27 And David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish someday by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape to the land of the Philistines; and Saul will [a]despair of me, to seek me anymore in any part of Israel. So I shall escape out of his hand.” 2 Then David arose (A)and went over with the six hundred men who were with him (B)to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3 So David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, and David (C)with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s widow. 4 And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; so he sought him no more.
5 Then David said to Achish, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” 6 So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore (D)Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. 7 Now [b]the time that David (E)dwelt in the country of the Philistines was one full year and four months.
8 And David and his men went up and raided (F)the Geshurites, (G)the [c]Girzites, and the (H)Amalekites. For those nations were the inhabitants of the land from [d]of old, (I)as you go to Shur, even as far as the land of Egypt. 9 Whenever David [e]attacked the land, he left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the apparel, and returned and came to Achish. 10 Then Achish would say, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David would say, “Against the southern area of Judah, or against the southern area of (J)the Jerahmeelites, or against the southern area of (K)the Kenites.” 11 David would save neither man nor woman alive, to bring news to Gath, saying, “Lest they should inform on us, saying, ‘Thus David did.’ ” And thus was his behavior all the time he dwelt in the country of the Philistines. 12 So Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly abhor him; therefore he will be my servant forever.”
