David Among the Philistines
27 But David thought to himself, “One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”
2 So David and the six hundred men(A) with him left and went(B) over to Achish(C) son of Maok king of Gath. 3 David and his men settled in Gath with Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives:(D) Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail of Carmel, the widow of Nabal. 4 When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, he no longer searched for him.
5 Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be assigned to me in one of the country towns, that I may live there. Why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
6 So on that day Achish gave him Ziklag,(E) and it has belonged to the kings of Judah ever since. 7 David lived(F) in Philistine territory a year and four months.
8 Now David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites,(G) the Girzites and the Amalekites.(H) (From ancient times these peoples had lived in the land extending to Shur(I) and Egypt.) 9 Whenever David attacked an area, he did not leave a man or woman alive,(J) but took sheep and cattle, donkeys and camels, and clothes. Then he returned to Achish.
10 When Achish asked, “Where did you go raiding today?” David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah” or “Against the Negev of Jerahmeel(K)” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.(L)” 11 He did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought, “They might inform on us and say, ‘This is what David did.’” And such was his practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory. 12 Achish trusted David and said to himself, “He has become so obnoxious(M) to his people, the Israelites, that he will be my servant for life.(N)”

27 Then David said to [a]himself, “Now I will [b]perish one day by the hand of Saul. (A)There is nothing better for me than to safely escape into the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of searching for me anymore in all the territory of Israel, and I will escape from his hand.” 2 So David set out and went over, he and (B)the six hundred men who were with him, to (C)Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3 And David lived with Achish in Gath, he and his men, (D)each with his own household—David with (E)his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s [c]widow. 4 Now it was reported to Saul that David had fled to Gath, so he no longer searched for him.
5 Then David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your sight, have them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, so that I may live there; for why should your servant live in the royal city with you?” 6 So Achish gave him Ziklag that day; therefore (F)Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. 7 The number of days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was (G)a year and four months.
8 Now David and his men went up and attacked (H)the Geshurites, the Girzites, and (I)the Amalekites; for they were the inhabitants of the land from ancient times, as you come to (J)Shur even as far as the land of Egypt. 9 David [d]attacked the land and did not leave a man or a woman alive, and he (K)took the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned and came to Achish. 10 Now Achish said, “[e]Where did you (L)carry out an attack today?” And David said, “Against the [f]Negev of Judah, against the [g]Negev of (M)the Jerahmeelites, and against the [h]Negev of (N)the Kenites.” 11 And David did not leave a man or a woman alive to bring to Gath, saying, “Otherwise they will tell about us, saying, ‘This is what David has done, and this has been his practice all the time that he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’” 12 So Achish believed David, saying, “He has undoubtedly made himself repulsive among his people Israel; therefore he will become my servant forever.”

27 Nasabi ni David sa kanyang sarili, “Darating ang panahon na papatayin ako ni Saul. Mabuti pang tumakas ako papunta sa lupain ng mga Filisteo para tumigil na siya sa paghahanap sa akin sa Israel at makaligtas ako sa kanya.” 2 Kaya pumunta si David at ang 600 niyang tauhan kay Haring Akish ng Gat, na anak ni Maok. 3 Doon sila tumira sa Gat sa pangangalaga ni Akish, kasama ang kani-kanilang pamilya. Dinala ni David ang dalawa niyang asawa na si Ahinoam na taga-Jezreel at si Abigail na taga-Carmel, na biyuda ni Nabal. 4 Nang mabalitaan ni Saul na tumakas si David at pumunta sa Gat, hindi na niya ito hinanap.
5 Isang araw, sinabi ni David kay Akish, “Kung naging mabuti po ako sa inyong paningin, maaari po bang sa isang bayan sa ibang lalawigan kami tumira? Hindi po kasi kami nararapat tumira rito sa lungsod na tinitirhan ninyo bilang hari.” 6 Kaya nang araw na iyon, ibinigay sa kanya ni Akish ang lugar ng Ziklag. Kaya hanggang ngayon sakop ito ng mga hari ng Juda. 7 Tumira si David sa teritoryo ng mga Filisteo sa loob ng isang taon at apat na buwan.
8 Nang panahong iyon, sinalakay ni David at ng mga tauhan niya ang mga Geshureo, Gizrita at mga Amalekita. Mula pa noong una, ang mga taong itoʼy nakatira na sa lugar na malapit sa Shur papuntang Egipto. 9 Kapag sumasalakay sila David, pinapatay nila ang lahat ng lalaki at babae, at kinukuha ang mga tupa, baka, asno, kamelyo at pati na rin ang mga damit. Pagkatapos, bumabalik sila kay Akish. 10 Kapag itinatanong ni Akish kung saan sila sumalakay nang araw na iyon, sinasabi nilang sinalakay nila ang Negev sa Juda, o sa bahagi ng Negev na tinitirhan ng mga Jerameelita o sa bahagi ng Negev na tinitirhan ng mga Keneo. 11 Pinapatay nina David ang lahat ng lalaki at babae para walang makarating sa Gat at sabihin kung ano talaga ang ginawa nila.
