Davi poupa a vida de Saul novamente
26 Alguns homens de Zife foram até Saul, em Gibeá, para lhe dizer: “Davi está escondido na colina de Haquilá, em frente ao deserto de Jesimom”.
2 Então Saul escolheu três mil dos melhores soldados de Israel e saiu para perseguir Davi no deserto de Zife. 3 Acampou à beira da estrada, ao lado da colina de Haquilá, junto ao deserto de Jesimom, onde Davi estava escondido. Quando Davi soube que Saul tinha vindo atrás dele no deserto, 4 enviou espiões para confirmar a notícia de que Saul havia chegado.
5 Então Davi foi ao acampamento de Saul para ver o que se passava por lá. Saul e Abner, filho de Ner, comandante do seu exército, dormiam dentro de um círculo formado por seus guerreiros. 6 “Quem se oferece para ir até lá comigo?”, perguntou Davi ao hitita Aimeleque e a Abisai, filho de Zeruia, irmão de Joabe.
“Eu irei com o senhor”, respondeu Abisai. 7 Então Davi e Abisai entraram no acampamento de Saul à noite e o encontraram dormindo, com a lança fincada no chão, perto da cabeça. Abner e os soldados dormiam à sua volta.
8 Abisai disse a Davi: “Certamente desta vez Deus entregou o inimigo em suas mãos! Agora, deixe-me cravá-lo na terra com um só golpe da lança. Não precisarei de outro!”.
9 “Não o mate!”, disse Davi. “Ninguém será considerado inocente se atacar o ungido do Senhor! 10 Por certo o Senhor ferirá Saul algum dia, ou ele morrerá de velhice, ou na batalha. 11 Que o Senhor me livre de matar o homem que ele ungiu! Mas vamos pegar a lança e o jarro de água que estão perto de sua cabeça, e depois vamos embora.”
12 Davi pegou a lança e o jarro de água que estavam perto da cabeça de Saul. Depois, ele e Abisai saíram sem que ninguém os visse nem acordasse, pois o Senhor os tinha feito cair num sono profundo.
13 Davi subiu a colina e passou para o outro lado, até estar a uma distância segura. 14 Então gritou para os soldados e para Abner, filho de Ner: “Acorde, Abner!”.
Abner perguntou de volta: “Quem é você? E como ousa acordar o rei aos gritos?”.
15 “Você é um grande homem, não é mesmo, Abner?”, disse Davi. “Quem, em todo o Israel, pode se comparar a você? Por que então não protegeu seu senhor, o rei, quando alguém chegou tão perto dele que poderia matá-lo? 16 Isso não é nada bom! Tão certo como o Senhor vive, você e seus homens merecem morrer, pois não protegeram seu rei, o ungido do Senhor. Olhe em volta! Onde estão a lança e o jarro de água do rei, que estavam perto da cabeça dele?”
17 Saul reconheceu a voz de Davi e disse: “É você, meu filho Davi?”.
Davi respondeu: “Sim, meu senhor, o rei. 18 Por que meu senhor persegue seu servo? O que eu fiz? Qual é meu crime? 19 Agora, porém, peço que o rei ouça seu servo. Se o Senhor incitou o rei contra mim, então que ele aceite minha oferta. Mas, se isso tudo não passa de um plano de homens, que o Senhor os amaldiçoe! Pois eles me expulsaram de meu lar, de modo que não posso mais viver entre o povo do Senhor, e disseram: ‘Vá servir outros deuses!’. 20 Devo morrer em terra estrangeira, longe da presença do Senhor? Por que o rei de Israel sai à procura de uma pulga? Por que me persegue como uma perdiz nos montes?”.
21 Então Saul disse: “Pequei. Volte para casa, Davi, meu filho, e não procurarei mais lhe fazer mal, pois hoje você considerou minha vida preciosa. Tenho sido insensato e cometi erros muito graves”.
22 “Aqui está sua lança, ó rei!”, respondeu Davi. “Mande um dos seus servos vir pegá-la. 23 O Senhor recompensa quem age com justiça e lealdade, e eu me recusei a matar o rei, mesmo quando o Senhor o entregou em minhas mãos, pois é o ungido do Senhor. 24 Agora, que o Senhor considere minha vida preciosa, como hoje considerei preciosa a vida do rei. Que ele me livre de todos os meus sofrimentos.”
25 E Saul disse a Davi: “Seja abençoado, Davi, meu filho. Você realizará muitos feitos heroicos e certamente será bem-sucedido”. Então Davi foi embora, e Saul voltou para casa.

Davi poupa outra vez a vida de Saul
26 E vieram os zifeus a Saul, a Gibeá, dizendo: Não está Davi escondido no outeiro de Haquila, à entrada de Jesimom? 2 Então, Saul se levantou e desceu ao deserto de Zife, e com ele três mil homens escolhidos de Israel, a buscar a Davi no deserto de Zife. 3 E acampou-se Saul no outeiro de Haquila, que está à entrada de Jesimom, junto ao caminho; porém Davi ficou no deserto e viu que Saul vinha após ele ao deserto. 4 Pois Davi enviou espias e soube que Saul vinha decerto. 5 E Davi se levantou e veio ao lugar onde Saul se tinha acampado; viu Davi o lugar onde se tinha deixado Saul e Abner, filho de Ner, chefe do seu exército; e Saul estava deitado dentro do lugar dos carros, e o povo estava acampado ao redor dele.
6 E respondeu Davi e falou a Aimeleque, o heteu, e a Abisai, filho de Zeruia, irmão de Joabe, dizendo: Quem descerá comigo a Saul ao arraial? E disse Abisai: Eu descerei contigo. 7 Vieram, pois, Davi e Abisai de noite ao povo, e eis que Saul estava deitado, dormindo dentro do lugar dos carros, e a sua lança estava pregada na terra à sua cabeceira; e Abner e o povo estavam deitados ao redor dele. 8 Então, disse Abisai a Davi: Deus te entregou, hoje, nas mãos a teu inimigo; deixa-mo, pois, agora, encravar com a lança de uma vez na terra, e não o ferirei segunda vez. 9 E disse Davi a Abisai: Nenhum dano lhe faças; porque quem estendeu a sua mão contra o ungido do Senhor e ficou inocente? 10 Disse mais Davi: Vive o Senhor, que o Senhor o ferirá, ou o seu dia chegará em que morra, ou descerá para a batalha e perecerá. 11 O Senhor me guarde de que eu estenda a mão contra o ungido do Senhor; agora, porém, toma lá a lança que está à sua cabeceira e a bilha da água, e vamo-nos. 12 Tomou, pois, Davi a lança e a bilha da água, da cabeceira de Saul, e foram-se; e ninguém houve que o visse, nem que o advertisse, nem que acordasse; porque todos estavam dormindo, pois havia caído sobre eles um profundo sono do Senhor.
13 E Davi, passando à outra banda, pôs-se no cume do monte ao longe, de maneira que entre eles havia grande distância. 14 E Davi bradou ao povo e a Abner, filho de Ner, dizendo: Não responderás, Abner? Então, Abner respondeu e disse: Quem és tu, que bradas ao rei? 15 Então, disse Davi a Abner: Porventura, não és varão? E quem há em Israel como tu? Por que, pois, não guardaste tu o rei, teu senhor? Porque um do povo veio para destruir o rei, teu senhor. 16 Não é bom isso que fizeste; vive o Senhor, que sois dignos de morte, vós que não guardastes a vosso senhor, o ungido do Senhor; vede, pois, agora, onde está a lança do rei e a bilha da água, que tinha à sua cabeceira.
17 Então, conheceu Saul a voz de Davi e disse: Não é esta a tua voz, meu filho Davi? E disse Davi: Minha voz é, ó rei, meu senhor. 18 Disse mais: Por que persegue o meu senhor assim o seu servo? Pois que fiz eu? E que maldade se acha nas minhas mãos? 19 Ouve, pois, agora, te rogo, ó rei, meu senhor, as palavras de teu servo: Se o Senhor te incita contra mim, cheire ele a oferta de manjares; porém, se são os filhos dos homens, malditos sejam perante o Senhor; pois eles me têm repelido hoje, para que eu não fique apegado à herança do Senhor, dizendo: Vai, serve a outros deuses. 20 Agora, pois, não se derrame o meu sangue na terra diante do Senhor; pois saiu o rei de Israel em busca de uma pulga, como quem persegue uma perdiz nos montes.
21 Então, disse Saul: Pequei; volta, meu filho Davi, porque não mandarei fazer-te mal; porque foi hoje preciosa a minha vida aos teus olhos. Eis que procedi loucamente e errei grandissimamente. 22 Davi, então, respondeu e disse: Eis aqui a lança do rei; passe cá um dos jovens e leve-a. 23 O Senhor, porém, pague a cada um a sua justiça e a sua lealdade; pois o Senhor te tinha dado hoje na minha mão, porém não quis estender a minha mão contra o ungido do Senhor.
24 E eis que, assim como foi a tua vida hoje de tanta estima aos meus olhos, de outra tanta estima seja a minha vida aos olhos do Senhor, e ele me livre de toda tribulação. 25 Então, Saul disse a Davi: Bendito sejas tu, meu filho Davi; pois grandes coisas farás e também prevalecerás. Então, Davi se foi pelo seu caminho, e Saul voltou para o seu lugar.

26 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.
5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.
6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.
9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless?
10 David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
11 The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.
13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:
14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the Lord liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the Lord's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.
17 And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.
18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?
19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the Lord have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the Lord; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.
20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
22 And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
23 The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed.
24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the Lord, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.
25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

26 Now the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, (A)“Is David not hiding in the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?” 2 Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having (B)three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph. 3 And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is opposite Jeshimon, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had indeed come.
5 So David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, and (C)Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Now Saul lay within the camp, with the people encamped all around him. 6 Then David answered, and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai (D)the son of Zeruiah, brother of (E)Joab, saying, “Who will (F)go down with me to Saul in the camp?”
And (G)Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night; and there Saul lay sleeping within the camp, with his spear stuck in the ground by his head. And Abner and the people lay all around him. 8 Then Abishai said to David, (H)“God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, please, let me strike him [a]at once with the spear, right to the earth; and I will not have to strike him a second time!”
9 But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; (I)for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” 10 David said furthermore, “As the Lord lives, (J)the Lord shall strike him, or (K)his day shall come to die, or he shall (L)go out to battle and perish. 11 (M)The Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go.” 12 So David took the spear and the jug of water by Saul’s head, and they got away; and no man saw or knew it or awoke. For they were all asleep, because (N)a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.
13 Now David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great distance being between them. 14 And David called out to the people and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Do you not answer, Abner?”
Then Abner answered and said, “Who are you, calling out to the king?”
15 So David said to Abner, “Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not guarded your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king. 16 This thing that you have done is not good. As the Lord lives, you deserve to die, because you have not guarded your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the jug of water that was by his head.”
17 Then Saul knew David’s voice, and said, (O)“Is that your voice, my son David?”
David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.” 18 And he said, (P)“Why does my lord thus pursue his servant? For what have I done, or what evil is in my hand? 19 Now therefore, please, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the Lord has (Q)stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, (R)for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the (S)inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’ 20 So now, do not let my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord. For the king of Israel has come out to seek (T)a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”
21 Then Saul said, (U)“I have sinned. Return, my son David. For I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.”
22 And David answered and said, “Here is the king’s spear. Let one of the young men come over and get it. 23 (V)May the Lord (W)repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. 24 And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.”
25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still (X)prevail.”
So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
