David scapă Cheila
23 Au venit şi au spus lui David: „Iată că filistenii au început lupta împotriva Cheilei(A) şi au jefuit ariile.” 2 David a întrebat(B) pe Domnul şi a zis: „Să mă duc şi să bat pe filistenii aceştia?” Şi Domnul i-a răspuns: „Du-te, bate pe filisteni şi izbăveşte Cheila.” 3 Dar oamenii lui David i-au zis: „Iată că noi ne temem chiar aici în Iuda. Ce va fi când vom merge la Cheila, împotriva oştilor filistenilor?” 4 David a întrebat iarăşi pe Domnul. Şi Domnul i-a răspuns: „Scoală-te şi pogoară-te la Cheila, căci dau pe filisteni în mâinile tale.” 5 David s-a dus dar cu oamenii lui la Cheila şi s-a bătut împotriva filistenilor; le-a luat vitele şi le-a pricinuit o mare înfrângere. Astfel a izbăvit David pe locuitorii din Cheila. 6 Când a fugit(C) Abiatar, fiul lui Ahimelec, la David în Cheila, s-a pogorât cu efodul în mână. 7 Saul a fost înştiinţat de sosirea lui David la Cheila şi a zis: „Dumnezeu îl dă în mâinile mele, căci a venit şi s-a închis într-o cetate cu porţi şi zăvoare.” 8 Şi Saul a chemat tot poporul la război ca să se pogoare la Cheila şi să împresoare pe David şi pe oamenii lui. 9 David, luând cunoştinţă de acest plan rău pe care-l punea la cale Saul împotriva lui, a zis(D) preotului Abiatar: „Adu efodul!” 10 Şi David a zis: „Doamne, Dumnezeul lui Israel, robul Tău a aflat că Saul vrea să vină la Cheila ca să nimicească(E) cetatea din pricina mea. 11 Mă vor da în mâinile lui locuitorii din Cheila? Se va pogorî Saul aici, cum a aflat robul Tău? Doamne, Dumnezeul lui Israel, binevoieşte şi descoperă lucrul acesta robului Tău!” Şi Domnul a răspuns: „Se va pogorî.” 12 David a mai zis: „Mă vor da locuitorii din Cheila pe mine şi pe oamenii mei în mâinile lui Saul?” Şi Domnul a răspuns: „Te vor da.” 13 Atunci, David s-a sculat cu oamenii lui în număr(F) de aproape şase sute de inşi, au ieşit din Cheila şi s-au dus unde au putut. Saul, aflând că David a scăpat din Cheila, s-a oprit din mers. 14 David a locuit în pustie, în locuri întărite, şi a rămas pe muntele(G) din pustia Zif(H). Saul îl căuta(I) mereu, dar Dumnezeu nu l-a dat în mâinile lui.

15 David, văzând că Saul a pornit să-i ia viaţa, a stat în pustia Zif, în pădure. 16 Atunci, Ionatan, fiul lui Saul, s-a sculat şi s-a dus la David în pădure. El i-a întărit încrederea în Dumnezeu 17 şi i-a zis: „Nu te teme de nimic, căci mâna tatălui meu Saul nu te va atinge. Tu vei domni peste Israel şi eu voi fi al doilea după tine; tatăl meu Saul ştie(J) şi el bine lucrul acesta.” 18 Au făcut iarăşi amândoi legământ(K) înaintea Domnului şi David a rămas în pădure, iar Ionatan s-a dus acasă. 19 Zifiţii(L) s-au suit la Saul, la Ghibea, şi au zis: „Nu-i David ascuns între noi în locuri întărite, în pădure, pe dealul Hachila, care este la miazăzi de pustie? 20 Pogoară-te dar, împărate, fiindcă aceasta este toată dorinţa sufletului tău; lasă pe noi dacă(M) e vorba să-l dăm în mâinile împăratului.” 21 Saul a zis: „Domnul să vă binecuvânteze că aveţi milă de mine! 22 Duceţi-vă, vă rog, de mai cercetaţi, ca să ştiţi şi să descoperiţi în ce loc şi-a îndreptat paşii şi cine l-a văzut, căci mi s-a spus că este foarte şiret. 23 Cercetaţi şi vedeţi toate locurile unde se ascunde, veniţi apoi la mine cu ceva temeinic şi voi porni cu voi. Dacă este în ţară, îl voi căuta printre toate miile lui Iuda.” 24 S-au sculat dar şi s-au dus la Zif înaintea lui Saul. David şi oamenii lui erau în pustia Maon(N), şi anume în câmpia dinspre miazăzi de pustie. 25 Saul a plecat cu oamenii săi în căutarea lui David. Despre lucrul acesta s-a dat de veste lui David, care s-a pogorât la stâncă şi a rămas în pustia Maon. Saul, când a auzit, a urmărit pe David în pustia Maon. 26 Saul mergea pe o parte a muntelui, şi David cu oamenii lui, pe cealaltă parte a muntelui. David fugea(O) repede, ca să scape de Saul. Dar Saul şi oamenii lui chiar înconjuraseră(P) pe David şi pe ai lui, ca să pună mâna pe ei, 27 când un sol(Q) a venit şi a spus lui Saul: „Grăbeşte-te să vii, căci au năvălit filistenii în ţară.” 28 Saul a încetat să urmărească pe David şi s-a întors să iasă înaintea filistenilor. De aceea, locul acela s-a numit Sela-Hamahlecot (Stânca împărţirii). 29 De acolo, David s-a suit spre locurile întărite din En-Ghedi(R) şi a locuit acolo.

David Saves Keilah
23 When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah(A) and are looting the threshing floors,”(B) 2 he inquired(C) of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?”
The Lord answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.”
3 But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!”
4 Once again David inquired(D) of the Lord, and the Lord answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines(E) into your hand.(F)” 5 So David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines and carried off their livestock. He inflicted heavy losses on the Philistines and saved the people of Keilah. 6 (Now Abiathar(G) son of Ahimelek had brought the ephod(H) down with him when he fled to David at Keilah.)
Saul Pursues David
7 Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah, and he said, “God has delivered him into my hands,(I) for David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars.”(J) 8 And Saul called up all his forces for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9 When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar(K) the priest, “Bring the ephod.(L)” 10 David said, “Lord, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me. 11 Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Lord, God of Israel, tell your servant.”
And the Lord said, “He will.”
12 Again David asked, “Will the citizens of Keilah surrender(M) me and my men to Saul?”
And the Lord said, “They will.”
13 So David and his men,(N) about six hundred in number, left Keilah and kept moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he did not go there.
14 David stayed in the wilderness(O) strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph.(P) Day after day Saul searched(Q) for him, but God did not(R) give David into his hands.
15 While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that[a] Saul had come out to take his life.(S) 16 And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength(T) in God. 17 “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king(U) over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.” 18 The two of them made a covenant(V) before the Lord. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh.
19 The Ziphites(W) went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us(X) in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah,(Y) south of Jeshimon? 20 Now, Your Majesty, come down whenever it pleases you to do so, and we will be responsible for giving(Z) him into your hands.”
21 Saul replied, “The Lord bless(AA) you for your concern(AB) for me. 22 Go and get more information. Find out where David usually goes and who has seen him there. They tell me he is very crafty. 23 Find out about all the hiding places he uses and come back to me with definite information. Then I will go with you; if he is in the area, I will track(AC) him down among all the clans of Judah.”
24 So they set out and went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Now David and his men were in the Desert of Maon,(AD) in the Arabah south of Jeshimon.(AE) 25 Saul and his men began the search, and when David was told about it, he went down to the rock and stayed in the Desert of Maon. When Saul heard this, he went into the Desert of Maon in pursuit of David.
26 Saul(AF) was going along one side of the mountain, and David and his men were on the other side, hurrying to get away from Saul. As Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his men to capture them, 27 a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Come quickly! The Philistines are raiding the land.” 28 Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines. That is why they call this place Sela Hammahlekoth.[b] 29 And David went up from there and lived in the strongholds(AG) of En Gedi.[c](AH)

23 Then they told David, saying, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against (A)Keilah, and they are robbing the threshing floors.”
2 Therefore David (B)inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and [a]attack these Philistines?”
And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah.”
3 But David’s men said to him, “Look, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?” 4 Then David inquired of the Lord once again.
And the Lord answered him and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.” 5 And David and his men went to Keilah and (C)fought with the Philistines, struck them with a mighty blow, and took away their livestock. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6 Now it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech (D)fled to David at Keilah, that he went down with an ephod in his hand.
7 And Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah. So Saul said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering a town that has gates and bars.” 8 Then Saul called all the people together for war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9 When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, (E)he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.” 10 Then David said, “O Lord God of Israel, Your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah (F)to destroy the city for my sake. 11 Will the men of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? O Lord God of Israel, I pray, tell Your servant.”
And the Lord said, “He will come down.”
12 Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah [b]deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?”
And the Lord said, “They will deliver you.”
13 So David and his men, (G)about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah and went wherever they could go. Then it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah; so he halted the expedition.
David in Wilderness Strongholds
14 And David stayed in strongholds in the wilderness, and remained in (H)the mountains in the Wilderness of (I)Ziph. Saul (J)sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand. 15 So David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the Wilderness of Ziph [c]in a forest. 16 Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and [d]strengthened his hand in God. 17 And he said to him, (K)“Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. (L)Even my father Saul knows that.” 18 So the two of them (M)made a covenant before the Lord. And David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his own house.
19 Then the Ziphites (N)came up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is David not hiding with us in strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? 20 Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to come down; and (O)our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.”
21 And Saul said, “Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have compassion on me. 22 Please go and find out for sure, and see the place where his hideout is, and who has seen him there. For I am told he is very crafty. 23 See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides; and come back to me with certainty, and I will go with you. And it shall be, if he is in the land, that I will search for him throughout all the [e]clans of Judah.”
24 So they arose and went to Ziph before Saul. But David and his men were in the Wilderness (P)of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon. 25 When Saul and his men went to seek him, they told David. Therefore he went down [f]to the rock, and stayed in the Wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued David in the Wilderness of Maon. 26 Then Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. (Q)So David made haste to get away from Saul, for Saul and his men (R)were encircling David and his men to take them.
27 (S)But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land!” 28 Therefore Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines; so they called that place [g]the Rock of Escape. 29 Then David went up from there and dwelt in strongholds at (T)En Gedi.

David libera la ciudad de Queilá
23 Un día avisaron a David que los filisteos estaban atacando a Queilá y saqueando los campos: 2 David consultó al Señor:
―¿Iré y los atacaré?
―Sí, ve y salva Queilá —le dijo el Señor.
3 Mas los hombres de David le dijeron:
―Nosotros tenemos miedo aun aquí en Judá. Ciertamente no queremos ir a Queilá a pelear contra las filas filisteas.
4 David le preguntó nuevamente al Señor, y el Señor nuevamente le respondió:
―Vete a Queilá, porque yo te ayudaré a conquistar a los filisteos.
5 Fueron a Queilá y destrozaron a los filisteos, y les quitaron el ganado. El pueblo de Queilá fue salvado. 6 Abiatar el sacerdote fue a Queilá con David, y llevó el efod consigo, a fin de consultar al Señor por David.
Saúl persigue a David
7 Saúl pronto supo que David estaba en Queilá. «Bien —exclamó—. Ahora lo tenemos. Dios lo ha entregado en mis manos, pues se ha atrapado a sí mismo en una ciudad amurallada».
8 Saúl movilizó todo su ejército y lo puso en marcha hacia Queilá para sitiar a David y a sus hombres. 9 Pero David se enteró del plan de Saúl y le dijo a Abiatar el sacerdote que trajera el efod para consultar al Señor.
10 ―Oh Señor Dios de Israel —dijo David—, he sabido que Saúl tiene planes de venir y destruir Queilá porque yo estoy aquí. 11 ¿Me entregarán a él los hombres de Queilá? ¿Vendrá Saúl realmente como he oído? Oh Señor Dios de Israel, te ruego que me lo digas.
Y el Señor le dijo:
―Vendrá.
12 ―¿Y me traicionarán estos hombres de Queilá entregándome a Saúl? —insistió David.
Y el Señor le respondió:
―Sí; te traicionarán.
13 Entonces David y sus hombres, que eran seiscientos ahora, salieron de Queilá y comenzaron a andar de un lado a otro por el campo. Pronto Saúl se enteró de que David había huido, y desistió de ir a Queilá. 14-15 David se fue a vivir en las cuevas del desierto en la región montañosa de Zif. Un día, cerca de Hores, supo que Saúl iba hacia Zif en su busca. Saúl lo perseguía día tras día para matarlo, pero el Señor no permitió que lo encontrara.
16 El príncipe Jonatán salió en busca de David y lo halló en Hores, y lo alentó en su fe en Dios. 17 «No tengas miedo —le dijo Jonatán—. Mi padre jamás te encontrará, tú serás el rey de Israel y yo estaré junto a ti, y seré tu segundo como mi padre bien lo sabe».
18 Entonces los dos hombres renovaron su pacto de amistad. David se quedó en Hores, y Jonatán regresó a su casa.
19 Pero luego los hombres de Zif fueron a Saúl, que se hallaba en Guibeá, y delataron a David.
―Sabemos dónde está escondido —le dijeron—. Está en las cuevas de Hores, en la colina de Jaquilá, al sur del desierto. 20 Desciende, señor, y nosotros le daremos caza.
21 ―Alabado sea el Señor —dijo Saúl—. ¡Por fin alguien ha tenido compasión de mí! 22 Vayan nuevamente y asegúrense de que está allí y quién lo ha visto, porque yo sé que él es muy astuto. 23 Descubran en cuál de sus escondites se halla, y vuelvan con una información precisa. Entonces yo iré con ustedes. Y si él está en aquella zona lo encontraré, aun cuando tenga que registrar cada rincón de Judá.
24 Ellos, pues, adelantándose a Saúl, se dirigieron a Zif. David y sus hombres se hallaban en el desierto de Maón en el Arabá, al sur del desierto: 25 Saúl fue en su busca. David se enteró y descendió a un risco que se halla en el desierto de Maón. 26 Saúl y David estaban ahora en laderas opuestas de una montaña. Saúl y sus hombres comenzaron a rodearlos. David hizo todo lo posible por escapar, pero, al parecer, estaba perdido. 27 En esto le llegó a Saúl un mensaje en el que se le informaba que los filisteos estaban atacando nuevamente a Israel, 28 y Saúl tuvo que abandonar la persecución, y regresar a pelear contra los filisteos. Desde entonces el lugar donde David estuvo acampado ha sido llamado Sela Hamajlecot (Roca de las Separaciones).
29 Luego David se fue a vivir en las cuevas de Engadi.
