El Señor rechaza a Saúl
15 Un día, Samuel dijo a Saúl:
—El Señor me envió para consagrarte como rey de Israel, su pueblo. Por lo tanto, escucha lo que el Señor te quiere decir. 2 Así dice el Señor todopoderoso: “Voy a castigar a los amalecitas por lo que le hicieron a Israel, pues se interpusieron en su camino cuando venía de Egipto. 3 Por lo tanto, ve y atácalos; destrúyelos junto con todas sus posesiones, y no les tengas compasión. Mata hombres y mujeres, niños y recién nacidos, y también toros y ovejas, camellos y asnos.”
4 Saúl mandó llamar al pueblo y le pasó revista en Telaím. Eran doscientos mil hombres de infantería y diez mil hombres de Judá. 5 Después Saúl se dirigió a la capital de Amalec y tomó posiciones junto al arroyo, 6 y dijo a los quenitas:
—¡Apártense! ¡Salgan de en medio de los amalecitas, para que no los destruya a ustedes junto con ellos; pues ustedes se portaron bien con los israelitas cuando venían de Egipto!
Los quenitas se apartaron de los amalecitas. 7 Entonces Saúl atacó a los amalecitas desde Havilá hasta la entrada de Sur, que está en la frontera de Egipto, y los derrotó; 8 tomó prisionero a Agag, su rey, y mató a filo de espada a todo su ejército. 9 Sin embargo, Saúl y su ejército dejaron con vida a Agag, y no mataron las mejores ovejas, ni los toros, ni los becerros más gordos, ni los carneros, ni destruyeron las cosas de valor, aunque sí destruyeron todo lo que era inútil y de poco valor.
10 Luego el Señor le habló a Samuel, y le dijo:
11 —Me pesa haber hecho rey a Saúl, porque se ha apartado de mí y no ha cumplido mis órdenes.
Samuel se quedó muy molesto, y durante toda la noche estuvo rogando al Señor. 12 A la mañana siguiente madrugó para ir al encuentro de Saúl, pero le avisaron que éste se había ido a Carmel, que allí se había levantado un monumento, y que luego, dando un rodeo, había continuado hacia Guilgal. 13 Entonces Samuel fue a donde estaba Saúl, el cual le dijo:
—El Señor te bendiga. Ya he cumplido la orden del Señor.
14 —¿Qué significan entonces esos balidos de ovejas y esos bramidos de toros que estoy escuchando? —respondió Samuel.
15 —Los han traído de Amalec —contestó Saúl—, porque la gente ha conservado las mejores ovejas y los mejores toros para ofrecerlos en sacrificio al Señor tu Dios. Pero hemos destruido lo demás.
16 —¡Calla, que te voy a comunicar lo que el Señor me dijo anoche! —le interrumpió Samuel.
—Habla —respondió Saúl.
17 Y Samuel le dijo:
—¿No te considerabas tú de poca importancia? Sin embargo, has llegado a ser el jefe de las tribus israelitas, y el Señor te ha consagrado como rey de Israel. 18 Ahora bien, si el Señor te envió con la orden estricta de destruir a esos pecadores amalecitas, y de atacarlos hasta acabar con ellos, 19 ¿por qué desobedeciste sus órdenes y te lanzaste sobre lo que se le quitó al enemigo, actuando mal a los ojos del Señor?
20 Saúl contestó:
—Yo obedecí las órdenes del Señor, y cumplí la misión que él me encomendó: he traído prisionero a Agag, rey de Amalec, y he destruido a los amalecitas. 21 Pero la tropa se quedó con ovejas y toros, lo mejor de lo que estaba destinado a la destrucción, para sacrificarlos en honor del Señor tu Dios en Guilgal.
22 Entonces Samuel dijo:
«Más le agrada al Señor que se le obedezca,
y no que se le ofrezcan sacrificios y holocaustos;
vale más obedecerlo y prestarle atención
que ofrecerle sacrificios y grasa de carneros.
23 Tanto peca el que se rebela contra él
como el que practica la adivinación;
semejante a quien adora a los ídolos
es aquel que lo desobedece.
Y como tú has rechazado sus mandatos,
ahora él te rechaza como rey.»
24 Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel:
—Sí, he pecado, pues pasé por alto la orden del Señor y tus instrucciones, porque tuve miedo de la gente y atendí su petición. 25 Pero yo te ruego que perdones mi pecado y que regreses conmigo para adorar al Señor.
26 —No voy a regresar contigo —le respondió Samuel—, porque tú has rechazado el mandato del Señor, y ahora él te rechaza como rey de Israel.
27 Samuel se volvió para marcharse, pero Saúl lo agarró por el borde de su capa y se la desgarró. 28 Entonces Samuel le dijo a Saúl:
—De esta misma manera, el Señor ha desgarrado hoy de ti el reino de Israel. Te lo ha quitado para entregárselo a un compatriota tuyo, que es mejor que tú. 29 Porque Dios, que es la gloria de Israel, no miente ni se arrepiente, pues no es un simple hombre para arrepentirse.
30 —Yo he pecado —repitió Saúl—. Pero te ruego que ante los ancianos de Israel y ante todo el pueblo me sigas respetando como rey. Así que vuelve conmigo para adorar al Señor tu Dios.
31 Samuel volvió entonces con Saúl, y éste adoró al Señor. 32 Luego Samuel ordenó:
—Traigan ante mí a Agag, rey de Amalec.
Agag se presentó muy tranquilo ante Samuel, pensando que ya había pasado el peligro de una muerte amarga. 33 Pero Samuel le dijo:
—Con tu espada dejaste sin hijos a muchas mujeres. Pues igual que ellas quedará tu madre.
Y sin más, Samuel lo descuartizó en Guilgal, ante el Señor. 34 Después se fue a Ramá, y Saúl regresó a su casa, en Guibeá de Saúl. 35 Y Samuel nunca más volvió a ver a Saúl, aunque le causó mucha tristeza que el Señor se hubiera arrepentido de haber hecho a Saúl rey de Israel.

The Lord Rejects Saul as King
15 Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one the Lord sent to anoint(A) you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the Lord. 2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites(B) for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally(C) destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
4 So Saul summoned the men and mustered them at Telaim—two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand from Judah. 5 Saul went to the city of Amalek and set an ambush in the ravine. 6 Then he said to the Kenites,(D) “Go away, leave the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites moved away from the Amalekites.
7 Then Saul attacked the Amalekites(E) all the way from Havilah to Shur,(F) near the eastern border of Egypt. 8 He took Agag(G) king of the Amalekites alive,(H) and all his people he totally destroyed with the sword. 9 But Saul and the army spared(I) Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves[b] and lambs—everything that was good. These they were unwilling to destroy completely, but everything that was despised and weak they totally destroyed.
10 Then the word of the Lord came to Samuel: 11 “I regret(J) that I have made Saul king, because he has turned(K) away from me and has not carried out my instructions.”(L) Samuel was angry,(M) and he cried out to the Lord all that night.
12 Early in the morning Samuel got up and went to meet Saul, but he was told, “Saul has gone to Carmel.(N) There he has set up a monument(O) in his own honor and has turned and gone on down to Gilgal.”
13 When Samuel reached him, Saul said, “The Lord bless you! I have carried out the Lord’s instructions.”
14 But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?”
15 Saul answered, “The soldiers brought them from the Amalekites; they spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the Lord your God, but we totally destroyed the rest.”
16 “Enough!” Samuel said to Saul. “Let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night.”
“Tell me,” Saul replied.
17 Samuel said, “Although you were once small(P) in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. 18 And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’ 19 Why did you not obey the Lord? Why did you pounce on the plunder(Q) and do evil in the eyes of the Lord?”
20 “But I did obey(R) the Lord,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king. 21 The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God at Gilgal.”
22 But Samuel replied:
“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,(S)
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,(T)
and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.
Because you have rejected(U) the word of the Lord,
he has rejected you as king.”
24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned.(V) I violated(W) the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid(X) of the men and so I gave in to them. 25 Now I beg you, forgive(Y) my sin and come back with me, so that I may worship the Lord.”
26 But Samuel said to him, “I will not go back with you. You have rejected(Z) the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you as king over Israel!”
27 As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe,(AA) and it tore.(AB) 28 Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn(AC) the kingdom(AD) of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you.(AE) 29 He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie(AF) or change(AG) his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind.”
30 Saul replied, “I have sinned.(AH) But please honor(AI) me before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me, so that I may worship the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.
32 Then Samuel said, “Bring me Agag king of the Amalekites.”
Agag came to him in chains.[c] And he thought, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
33 But Samuel said,
“As your sword has made women childless,
so will your mother be childless among women.”(AJ)
And Samuel put Agag to death before the Lord at Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel left for Ramah,(AK) but Saul went up to his home in Gibeah(AL) of Saul. 35 Until the day Samuel(AM) died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned(AN) for him. And the Lord regretted(AO) that he had made Saul king over Israel.

12 Ní òwúrọ̀ kùtùkùtù Samuẹli sì dìde láti lọ pàdé Saulu, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n sọ fún un pé, “Saulu ti wá sí Karmeli. Ó ti kọ́ ibìkan fún ara rẹ̀ níbẹ̀, ó sì ti yípadà, ó sì ti sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí Gilgali.”
13 Nígbà tí Samuẹli sì dé ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀, Saulu sì wí fún un pé, “Olúwa bùkún fún ọ, mo ti ṣe ohun tí Olúwa pàṣẹ.”

16 Samuẹli sí wí fún Saulu pé, “Dákẹ́ ná, jẹ́ kí èmi kí ó sọ ohun tí Olúwa wí fún mi ní alẹ́ àná fún ọ.”
Saulu sì wí pé, “Sọ fún mi.”
17 Samuẹli sì wí pé, “Bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé ìwọ fi ìgbà kan kéré lójú ara rẹ, ǹjẹ́ ìwọ kò ha di olórí ẹ̀yà Israẹli? Olúwa fi ààmì òróró yàn ọ́ ní ọba lórí Israẹli. 18 Olúwa sì rán ọ níṣẹ́ wí pé, ‘Lọ, kí o sì pa àwọn ènìyàn búburú ará Amaleki run pátápátá; gbóguntì wọ́n títí ìwọ yóò fi run wọ́n.’ 19 Èéṣe tí ìwọ kò fi gbọ́ ti Olúwa? Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi sáré sí ìkógun tí o sì ṣe búburú níwájú Olúwa?”
20 Saulu sì wí fún Samuẹli pé, “Ṣùgbọ́n èmi ti ṣe ìgbọ́ràn sí Olúwa, èmi sì ti lọ ní ọ̀nà tí Olúwa rán mi. Mo sì ti pa àwọn ará Amaleki run pátápátá, mo sì ti mú Agagi ọba wọn padà wá. 21 Àwọn ọmọ-ogun ti mú àgùntàn àti màlúù lára ìkógun èyí tí ó dára láti fi fún Olúwa láti fi rú ẹbọ sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ní Gilgali.”
22 (A)Ṣùgbọ́n Samuẹli dáhùn pé,
“Olúwa ha ní inú dídùn sí ẹbọ sísun àti ẹbọ
ju kí a gba ohùn Olúwa gbọ́?
Ìgbọ́ràn sàn ju ẹbọ lọ,
ìfetísílẹ̀ sì sàn ju ọ̀rá àgbò lọ.
23 Nítorí pé ìṣọ̀tẹ̀ dàbí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ àfọ̀ṣẹ,
àti ìgbéraga bí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ìbọ̀rìṣà.
Nítorí tí ìwọ ti kọ ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa,
Òun sì ti kọ̀ ọ́ ní ọba.”
24 Nígbà náà ni Saulu wí fún Samuẹli pé, “Èmi ti ṣẹ̀. Mo ti rú òfin Olúwa àti ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀. Èmi sì bẹ̀rù àwọn ènìyàn bẹ́ẹ̀ ni èmi sì gba ohùn wọn gbọ́. 25 Mo bẹ̀ ọ́ nísinsin yìí, dárí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ mi jì, kí ó sì yípadà pẹ̀lú mi, kí èmi kí ó lè sin Olúwa.”
26 Ṣùgbọ́n Samuẹli wí fún un pé, “Èmi kò ní bá ọ padà. Ìwọ ti kọ ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sílẹ̀, Olúwa sì ti kọ̀ ọ́ ní ọba lórí Israẹli!”
27 Bí Samuẹli sì ti fẹ́ yípadà láti lọ, Saulu sì di ẹ̀wù ìlekè rẹ̀ mú, ó sì fàya; 28 Samuẹli sì wí fún un pé, “Olúwa ti fa ìjọba Israẹli ya kúrò lọ́wọ́ ọ̀ rẹ lónìí, ó sì ti fi fún aládùúgbò rẹ kan tí ó sàn jù ọ́ lọ. 29 Ẹni tí ó ń ṣe ògo Israẹli, kì í purọ́, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kì í yí ọkàn rẹ̀ padà; nítorí kì í ṣe ènìyàn tí yóò yí ọkàn rẹ̀ padà.”
30 Saulu sì wí pé, “Èmi ti ṣẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n jọ̀wọ́ bu ọlá fún mi níwájú àwọn àgbàgbà ènìyàn mi, àti níwájú u Israẹli, yípadà pẹ̀lú mi, kí èmi kí ó lè tẹríba fún Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ.” 31 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Samuẹli sì yípadà pẹ̀lú Saulu, Saulu sì sin Olúwa.
32 Nígbà náà ni Samuẹli wí pé, “Mú Agagi ọba àwọn ará Amaleki wá fún mi.”
Agagi sì tọ̀ ọ́ wá ní ìgboyà pẹ̀lú èrò pé, “Nítòótọ́ ìkorò ikú ti kọjá.”
33 Ṣùgbọ́n Samuẹli wí pé,
“Bí idà rẹ ti sọ àwọn obìnrin di aláìní ọmọ
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ìyá rẹ yóò sì di aláìní ọmọ láàrín obìnrin.”
Samuẹli sì pa Agagi níwájú Olúwa ni Gilgali.

15 Samuel also said unto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.
2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
6 And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.
8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,
11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.
12 And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.
13 And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord.
14 And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
16 Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.
17 And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel?
18 And the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord?
20 And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.
22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25 Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord.
26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.
27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.
28 And Samuel said unto him, The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.
29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.
30 Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God.
31 So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the Lord.
32 Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
33 And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

Saul Spares King Agag
15 Samuel also said to Saul, (A)“The Lord sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the Lord. 2 Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, (B)how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and (C)attack[a] Amalek, and (D)utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ”
4 So Saul gathered the people together and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Judah. 5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.
6 Then Saul said to (E)the Kenites, (F)“Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For (G)you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. 7 (H)And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from (I)Havilah all the way to (J)Shur, which is east of Egypt. 8 (K)He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and (L)utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. 9 But Saul and the people (M)spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.
Saul Rejected as King
10 Now the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying, 11 (N)“I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has (O)turned back from following Me, (P)and has not performed My commandments.” And it (Q)grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the Lord all night. 12 So when Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told Samuel, saying, “Saul went to (R)Carmel, and indeed, he set up a monument for himself; and he has gone on around, passed by, and gone down to Gilgal.” 13 Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, (S)“Blessed are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.”
14 But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?”
15 And Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; (T)for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the Lord your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Be quiet! And I will tell you what the Lord said to me last night.”
And he said to him, “Speak on.”
17 So Samuel said, (U)“When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel? 18 Now the Lord sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are [b]consumed.’ 19 Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you swoop down on the [c]spoil, and do evil in the sight of the Lord?”
20 And Saul said to Samuel, (V)“But I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. 21 (W)But the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.”
22 So Samuel said:
(X)“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, (Y)to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of [d]witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
(Z)He also has rejected you from being king.”
24 (AA)Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I (AB)feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.”
26 But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, (AC)for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
27 And as Samuel turned around to go away, (AD)Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore. 28 So Samuel said to him, (AE)“The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. 29 And also the Strength of Israel (AF)will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”
30 Then he said, “I have sinned; yet (AG)honor me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.
32 Then Samuel said, “Bring Agag king of the Amalekites here to me.” So Agag came to him cautiously.
And Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
33 But Samuel said, (AH)“As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel went to (AI)Ramah, and Saul went up to his house at (AJ)Gibeah of Saul. 35 And (AK)Samuel went no more to see Saul until the day of his death. Nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul, and the Lord regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.
