37 And Saul consulted the Lord: Shall I pursue after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hands of Israel? And he answered him not that day.
38 And Saul said: Bring hither all the corners of the people: and know, and see by whom this sin hath happened to day.
39 As the Lord liveth who is the saviour of Israel, if it was done by Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. In this none of the people gainsaid him.

38 Saul therefore said, “Come here, all you who are leaders of the army, and let us find out what sin has been committed(B) today. 39 As surely as the Lord who rescues Israel lives,(C) even if the guilt lies with my son Jonathan,(D) he must die.”(E) But not one of them said a word.

38 Då sade Saul: ”Kom fram hit, alla ni som är ledare för folket, så att vi får veta och se vad det är för en synd som har begåtts i dag. 39 Så sant Herren lever, han som har räddat Israel: Om det så vore min son Jonatan, måste han dö.” Men ingen bland folket svarade honom.
