Samuel habla al pueblo
12 Entonces Samuel dijo a todo Israel: «Yo he escuchado su voz en todo lo que me dijeron(A), y he puesto un rey sobre ustedes(B). 2 Ahora, aquí está el rey que va delante de ustedes(C). Yo ya soy viejo y lleno de canas(D), y mis hijos son parte suya(E). Yo he andado delante de ustedes desde mi juventud hasta hoy(F). 3 Aquí estoy; testifiquen contra mí delante del Señor y delante de Su ungido(G). ¿A quién he quitado[a] un buey, o a quién he quitado[b] un asno, o a quién he defraudado(H)? ¿A quién he oprimido, o de mano de quién he tomado soborno para cegar mis ojos con él(I)? Testifiquen, y se lo restituiré». 4 Ellos respondieron: «Tú no nos has defraudado, tampoco nos has oprimido, ni has tomado nada de mano de ningún hombre». 5 Y Samuel les dijo: «El Señor es testigo contra ustedes, y Su ungido es testigo en este día(J) que nada han hallado en mi mano(K)». «Él es testigo», contestaron ellos.
6 Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: «El Señor es el que designó[c] a Moisés y a Aarón, y el que sacó a sus padres de la tierra de Egipto(L). 7 Ahora pues, preséntense para que yo discuta con ustedes delante del Señor acerca de todos los hechos de justicia del Señor que Él hizo por ustedes y por sus padres(M). 8 Cuando Jacob fue a Egipto(N) y sus padres clamaron al Señor(O), el Señor envió a Moisés y a Aarón(P), quienes[d] sacaron a sus padres de Egipto y los establecieron[e] en este lugar(Q). 9 Pero ellos olvidaron al Señor su Dios(R), y Él los vendió en manos de Sísara, jefe del ejército de Hazor(S), en manos de los filisteos(T) y en manos del rey de Moab(U), los cuales pelearon contra ellos. 10 Entonces clamaron al Señor(V), y dijeron: “Hemos pecado porque hemos dejado al Señor y hemos servido a los Baales y a Astarot(W); pero ahora, líbranos de la mano de nuestros enemigos, y te serviremos(X)”.
11 »Entonces el Señor envió a Jerobaal(Y), a [f]Bedán(Z), a Jefté(AA) y a Samuel(AB), y los libró a ustedes de mano de sus enemigos en derredor, de manera que habitaron con seguridad. 12 Cuando vieron que Nahas(AC), rey de los amonitas, venía contra ustedes, me dijeron: “No, sino que un rey ha de reinar sobre nosotros(AD)”, aunque el Señor su Dios era su rey(AE). 13 Ahora pues, aquí está el rey que han escogido(AF), a quien han pedido; este es a quien el Señor ha puesto rey sobre ustedes(AG). 14 Si temen al Señor y le sirven, escuchan Su voz y no se rebelan contra el mandamiento[g] del Señor, entonces ustedes, como el rey que reine sobre ustedes, estarán siguiendo al Señor su Dios(AH). 15 Pero si no escuchan la voz del Señor, sino que se rebelan contra el mandamiento del Señor(AI), entonces la mano del Señor estará contra ustedes(AJ), como estuvo contra sus padres(AK).
16 »Preséntense ahora, y vean esta gran cosa que el Señor hará delante de sus ojos(AL). 17 ¿No es ahora[h] la siega del trigo(AM)? Yo clamaré al Señor, para que mande truenos[i] y lluvia(AN). Entonces conocerán y verán que es grande la maldad que han hecho ante los ojos del Señor, al pedir para ustedes un rey(AO)». 18 Clamó Samuel al Señor, y el Señor envió aquel día truenos y lluvia; y todo el pueblo temió grandemente al Señor y a Samuel(AP).
19 Entonces todo el pueblo dijo a Samuel: «Ruega por tus siervos al Señor tu Dios para que no muramos(AQ), porque hemos añadido este mal a todos nuestros pecados al pedir para nosotros un rey(AR)». 20 Y Samuel dijo al pueblo: «No teman; aunque ustedes han hecho todo este mal, no se aparten de seguir al Señor, sino sirvan al Señor con todo su corazón(AS). 21 No se deben apartar, porque entonces irían tras vanidades que ni ayudan ni libran, pues son vanidades(AT). 22 Porque el Señor, a causa de Su gran nombre(AU), no desamparará a Su pueblo(AV), pues el Señor se ha complacido en hacerlos pueblo Suyo(AW).
23 »Y en cuanto a mí, lejos esté de mí que peque contra el Señor cesando de orar por ustedes(AX), antes bien, les instruiré en el camino bueno y recto(AY). 24 Solamente teman al Señor y sírvanle en verdad con todo su corazón(AZ); pues han visto cuán grandes cosas ha hecho por ustedes(BA). 25 Pero si perseveran en hacer mal(BB), ustedes y su rey(BC) perecerán(BD)».

12 (A)Samwiri n’ayogera eri Isirayiri yenna, ng’agamba nti, “Mpulirizza buli kintu kye muŋŋambye, ne mbateerawo kabaka okubafuga. 2 (B)Kaakano mulina kabaka ng’omukulembeze wammwe. Naye nze nkaddiye, mmeze n’envi, era n’abaana bange bali wano nammwe. Mbadde mukulembeze wammwe okuva mu buvubuka bwange n’okutuusa leero. 3 (C)Nzuuno mu maaso gammwe. Munnumirize ensonga yonna mu maaso ga Mukama ne mu maaso g’oyo gwe yafukako amafuta. Ani gwe nnali ntwalidde ente ye? Oba ani gwe nnali ntwalidde endogoyi ye? Oba ani gwe nnali ndyazaamaanyizza? Oba ani gwe nnali njooze? Oba ani gwe nnali nsabye enguzi? Bwe wabaawo anvunaana mu nsonga yonna nzija kumuliyira.”
4 Ne baddamu nti, “Totunyagangako newaakubadde okutujooga, wadde okulya enguzi okuva mu mukono gw’omuntu yenna.”
5 (D)Awo Samwiri n’abaddamu nti, “Mukama ye mujulirwa gye muli, era n’oyo gwe yafukako amafuta mujulirwa leero, nga sirina nsobi yonna mu maaso gammwe.” Ne baddamu nti, “Mujulirwa.”
6 (E)Samwiri n’agamba abantu nti, “Mukama ye yalonda Musa ne Alooni era n’aggya bajjajjammwe mu Misiri. 7 (F)Kale nno, musseeyo omwoyo mutege amatu mu maaso ga Mukama, eri okubalamula era n’okubajjukiza ebikolwa eby’obutuukirivu Mukama bye yabakolera mmwe ne bajjajjammwe.
8 (G)“Yakobo bwe yabeera mu Misiri, bajjajjammwe ne bakaabirira Mukama; Mukama yatuma Musa ne Alooni, abaabaggya mu Misiri, n’abateeka mu kifo kino.
9 (H)“Naye ne beerabira Mukama Katonda waabwe, kyeyava abatunda mu mukono gwa Sisera omuduumizi w’eggye lya Kazoli, ne mu mukono gw’Abafirisuuti, ne mu mukono gwa kabaka wa Mowaabu, abaabalwanyisanga. 10 (I)Abayisirayiri ne bakaabirira Mukama, nga boogera nti, ‘Twasobya, twava ku Mukama ne tuweereza Babaali ne Baasutoleesi. Naye kaakano tulokole okuva mu mukono gw’abalabe baffe, tunaakuweerezanga.’ 11 (J)Mukama n’alyoka atuma Yerubbaali[a], ne Bedani, ne Yefusa ne Samwiri ne babalokola mu mukono gw’abalabe bammwe enjuuyi zonna, ne mutuula mirembe. 12 (K)Naye bwe mwalaba Nakkasi kabaka w’Abamoni ng’abalumba, newaakubadde nga Mukama Katonda wammwe ye yali kabaka wammwe ne muŋŋamba nti, ‘Nedda, ffe twagala kabaka okutufuga.’ 13 (L)Kaakano kabaka gwe mulonze era gwe mwasaba wuuno, era laba Mukama ataddewo kabaka okubafuga. 14 (M)Bwe munaatyanga Mukama ne mumuweerezanga, ne mugonderanga eddoboozi lye, ne mutajeemera biragiro bye, mmwe ne kabaka abafuga ne mugobereranga Mukama Katonda wammwe, kinaabanga kirungi. 15 (N)Naye bwe mutaagonderenga Mukama, ne mujeemera ebiragiro bye, omukono gwe gunaalwananga nammwe, nga bwe kyali ku bajjajjammwe.
16 (O)“Kale nno mulindirire mulabe ekintu ekikulu Mukama kyagenda okukola mu maaso gammwe. 17 (P)Bino kaakano si biseera bya kukungula ŋŋaano. Naye nzija kusaba Mukama, aweereze okubwatuka n’enkuba, mulyoke mutegeere nga kye mwakola okusaba kabaka kyali kibi mu maaso ga Mukama.”
18 (Q)Awo Samwiri n’asaba Mukama, Mukama n’aweereza okubwatuka n’enkuba, abantu bonna ne batya nnyo Mukama ne Samwiri. 19 (R)Awo abantu bonna ne bagamba Samwiri nti, “Tusabire eri Mukama Katonda wo, ffe abaweereza bo, tuleme kufa, kubanga twongedde ku bibi byaffe ebirala byonna, bwe twasabye kabaka.”
20 Samwiri n’addamu abantu nti, “Temutya, okukola mwakola ebibi ebyo byonna, naye temuvanga ku Mukama, kaakano mumuweerezenga n’omutima gwammwe gwonna. 21 (S)Temukyukanga okugoberera ebintu ebitaliimu, ebitayinza kubagasa wadde okubawonya, kubanga tebiriimu nsa. 22 (T)Mukama tagenda kwabulira bantu be, olw’erinnya lye ekkulu, kubanga Mukama yasiima okubafuula ababe. 23 (U)Nze ku lwange, kikafuuwe, okwonoona eri Mukama ne ssibasabira; nnaabalaganga ekkubo ettuufu era eggolokofu. 24 (V)Kyokka mutyenga Mukama era mumuweerezenga n’obwesigwa n’omutima gwammwe gwonna, nga mujjukira ebintu ebikulu bye yabakolera. 25 (W)Naye bwe muneeyongeranga okukola ebibi, mmwe ne kabaka wammwe mulizikirizibwa.”

Samuel's Farewell Address
12 And Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have obeyed (A)your voice in all that you have said to me (B)and have made a king over you. 2 And now, behold, the king (C)walks before you, (D)and I am old and gray; and behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day. 3 Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before (E)his anointed. (F)Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me[a] and I will restore it to you.” 4 They said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man's hand.” 5 And he said to them, “The Lord is witness against you, and (G)his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything (H)in my hand.” And they said, “He is witness.”
6 And Samuel said to the people, (I)“The Lord is witness,[b] who appointed Moses and Aaron and brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt. 7 Now therefore stand still that I may plead with you before the Lord concerning all the righteous deeds of the Lord that he performed for you and for your fathers. 8 (J)When Jacob went into Egypt, and the Egyptians oppressed them,[c] (K)then your fathers cried out to the Lord and (L)the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, (M)who brought your fathers out of Egypt and made them dwell in this place. 9 But (N)they forgot the Lord their God. (O)And he sold them into the hand of Sisera, commander of the army of Hazor,[d] (P)and into the hand of the Philistines, (Q)and into the hand of the king of Moab. And they fought against them. 10 (R)And they cried out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord (S)and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. But now (T)deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve you.’ 11 And the Lord sent (U)Jerubbaal (V)and Barak[e] (W)and Jephthah and (X)Samuel and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety. 12 And when you saw that (Y)Nahash the king of the Ammonites came against you, (Z)you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ (AA)when the Lord your God was your king. 13 And now (AB)behold the king whom you have chosen, for whom you have asked; behold, (AC)the Lord has set a king over you. 14 If you will (AD)fear the Lord and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God, it will be well. 15 But (AE)if you will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then (AF)the hand of the Lord will be against you and (AG)your king.[f] 16 Now therefore (AH)stand still and see this great thing that the Lord will do before your eyes. 17 (AI)Is it not wheat harvest today? (AJ)I will call upon the Lord, that he may send thunder and rain. And you shall know and see that (AK)your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking for yourselves a king.” 18 So Samuel called upon the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day, (AL)and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.
19 And all the people said to Samuel, (AM)“Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.” 20 And Samuel said to the people, “Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet (AN)do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. 21 And (AO)do not turn aside after (AP)empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. 22 (AQ)For the Lord will not forsake his people, (AR)for his great name's sake, because (AS)it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself. 23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing (AT)to pray for you, (AU)and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. 24 (AV)Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider (AW)what great things he has done for you. 25 But if you still do wickedly, (AX)you shall be swept away, (AY)both you and your king.”
