12 But when you saw King Nahash of Ammon coming to attack you, you told me, ‘No, a king should rule over us,’ though the Lord your God was your king.

13 “Now, here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for. See, the Lord has put a king over you. 14 If you fear the Lord, serve him, obey him, and don’t rebel against what he says, then you and your king will follow the Lord your God.

12 And when you saw that (A)Nahash the king of the Ammonites came against you, (B)you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ (C)when the Lord your God was your king. 13 And now (D)behold the king whom you have chosen, for whom you have asked; behold, (E)the Lord has set a king over you. 14 If you will (F)fear the Lord and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God, it will be well.
