10 Entonces Samuel tomó el frasco de aceite, lo derramó sobre la cabeza de Saúl[a](A), lo besó(B) y le dijo: «¿No te ha ungido el Señor(C) por príncipe sobre Su heredad(D)? 2 Cuando te apartes hoy de mí, hallarás a dos hombres cerca del sepulcro de Raquel(E), en el territorio de Benjamín, en Selsa, y te dirán: “Las asnas que fuiste a buscar han sido halladas. Ahora tu padre ha dejado de preocuparse por[b] las asnas(F) y está angustiado por ustedes y dice: ‘¿Qué haré en cuanto a mi hijo?’”. 3 De allí seguirás más adelante, llegarás hasta la encina[c] de Tabor(G), y allí te encontrarás con tres hombres que suben a Dios en Betel(H), uno llevando tres cabritos, otro llevando tres tortas de pan y otro llevando un odre de vino; 4 ellos te saludarán y te darán dos tortas de pan, las cuales recibirás[d] de sus manos.

5 »Después llegarás a la colina de Dios[e](I) donde está la guarnición de los filisteos; y sucederá que cuando llegues a la ciudad, allá encontrarás a un grupo de profetas(J) que descienden del lugar alto con arpa, pandero, flauta y lira delante de ellos, y estarán profetizando(K). 6 Entonces el Espíritu del Señor vendrá sobre ti con gran poder(L), profetizarás con ellos(M) y serás cambiado en otro hombre. 7 Cuando estas señales te hayan sucedido, haz lo que la situación requiera[f](N), porque Dios está contigo(O). 8 Descenderás delante de mí a Gilgal(P), y también yo descenderé a donde estás para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz(Q). Esperarás siete días hasta que venga a verte y te muestre lo que debes hacer(R)».

9 Cuando Saúl volvió la espalda para dejar a Samuel, Dios le cambió el[g] corazón(S), y todas aquellas señales le acontecieron aquel mismo día. 10 Cuando Saúl y su criado llegaron allá a la colina[h], un grupo de profetas salió a su encuentro; y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con gran poder, y profetizó entre ellos(T). 11 Cuando todos los que lo conocían de antes vieron que ahora profetizaba con los profetas, los del pueblo se decían unos a otros: «¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Está Saúl también entre los profetas(U)?». 12 Un hombre de allí respondió: «¿Y quién es el padre de ellos?». Por lo cual esto se hizo proverbio: «¿Está Saúl también entre los profetas(V)?». 13 Cuando acabó de profetizar vino al lugar alto.

14 Y un tío de Saúl(W) le preguntó a él y a su criado: «¿Adónde fueron?». Saúl respondió: «A buscar las asnas(X). Cuando vimos que no aparecían, fuimos a ver a Samuel». 15 El tío le dijo: «Te ruego que me cuentes qué les dijo Samuel». 16 Y Saúl respondió a su tío: «Nos hizo saber claramente que las asnas habían sido halladas(Y)». Pero Saúl no le contó acerca del asunto del reino que Samuel le había mencionado.

17 Después Samuel convocó al pueblo delante del Señor en Mizpa(Z); 18 y dijo a los hijos de Israel: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y los libré del poder[i] de los egipcios y del poder[j] de todos los reinos que los oprimían(AA)”. 19 Pero ustedes han rechazado hoy a su Dios, que los libra de todas sus calamidades y sus angustias(AB), y han dicho: “No, sino[k] pon un rey sobre nosotros”. Ahora pues, preséntense delante del Señor por sus tribus y por sus familias[l](AC)».

20 Samuel hizo que se acercaran todas las tribus de Israel, y fue escogida por sorteo la tribu de Benjamín. 21 Entonces hizo que se acercara la tribu de Benjamín por sus familias, y fue escogida la familia de Matri. Y Saúl, hijo de Cis, fue escogido; pero cuando lo buscaron no lo pudieron hallar.

22 Volvieron, pues, a consultar al Señor(AD): «¿Llegó ya el hombre aquí?». Y el Señor respondió: «Sí, está escondido junto al equipaje». 23 Corrieron y lo trajeron de allí. Cuando estuvo en medio del pueblo, de los hombros arriba(AE) sobrepasaba a todos. 24 Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: «¿Ven al que el Señor ha escogido(AF)? En verdad que no hay otro como él entre todo el pueblo». Entonces todo el pueblo gritó, y dijo: «¡Viva el rey(AG)!». 25 Entonces Samuel dio[m] al pueblo las ordenanzas del reino(AH), y las escribió en el libro, el cual puso delante del Señor(AI). Y despidió Samuel a todo el pueblo, cada uno a su casa. 26 Saúl también se fue a su casa en Guibeá(AJ), y con él fueron los valientes cuyos corazones Dios había tocado. 27 Pero ciertos hombres indignos[n](AK) dijeron: «¿Cómo puede este salvarnos?». Y lo despreciaron y no le trajeron presente alguno(AL). Pero él guardó silencio.

10 Tomando entonces Samuel una redoma de aceite, la derramó sobre su cabeza, y lo besó, y le dijo: ¿No te ha ungido Jehová por príncipe sobre su pueblo Israel? 2 Hoy, después que te hayas apartado de mí, hallarás dos hombres junto al sepulcro de Raquel, en el territorio de Benjamín, en Selsa, los cuales te dirán: Las asnas que habías ido a buscar se han hallado; tu padre ha dejado ya de inquietarse por las asnas, y está afligido por vosotros, diciendo: ¿Qué haré acerca de mi hijo? 3 Y luego que de allí sigas más adelante, y llegues a la encina de Tabor, te saldrán al encuentro tres hombres que suben a Dios en Bet-el, llevando uno tres cabritos, otro tres tortas de pan, y el tercero una vasija de vino; 4 los cuales, luego que te hayan saludado, te darán dos panes, los que tomarás de mano de ellos. 5 Después de esto llegarás al collado de Dios donde está la guarnición de los filisteos; y cuando entres allá en la ciudad encontrarás una compañía de profetas que descienden del lugar alto, y delante de ellos salterio, pandero, flauta y arpa, y ellos profetizando. 6 Entonces el Espíritu de Jehová vendrá sobre ti con poder, y profetizarás con ellos, y serás mudado en otro hombre. 7 Y cuando te hayan sucedido estas señales, haz lo que te viniere a la mano, porque Dios está contigo. 8 Luego bajarás delante de mí a Gilgal; entonces descenderé yo a ti para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz. Espera siete días, hasta que yo venga a ti y te enseñe lo que has de hacer.

9 Aconteció luego, que al volver él la espalda para apartarse de Samuel, le mudó Dios su corazón; y todas estas señales acontecieron en aquel día. 10 Y cuando llegaron allá al collado, he aquí la compañía de los profetas que venía a encontrarse con él; y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con poder, y profetizó entre ellos. 11 Y aconteció que cuando todos los que le conocían antes vieron que profetizaba con los profetas, el pueblo decía el uno al otro: ¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Saúl también entre los profetas? 12 Y alguno de allí respondió diciendo: ¿Y quién es el padre de ellos? Por esta causa se hizo proverbio: ¿También Saúl entre los profetas?(A) 13 Y cesó de profetizar, y llegó al lugar alto.

14 Un tío de Saúl dijo a él y a su criado: ¿A dónde fuisteis? Y él respondió: A buscar las asnas; y como vimos que no aparecían, fuimos a Samuel. 15 Dijo el tío de Saúl: Yo te ruego me declares qué os dijo Samuel. 16 Y Saúl respondió a su tío: Nos declaró expresamente que las asnas habían sido halladas. Mas del asunto del reino, de que Samuel le había hablado, no le descubrió nada.

17 Después Samuel convocó al pueblo delante de Jehová en Mizpa, 18 y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Así ha dicho Jehová el Dios de Israel: Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y os libré de mano de los egipcios, y de mano de todos los reinos que os afligieron. 19 Pero vosotros habéis desechado hoy a vuestro Dios, que os guarda de todas vuestras aflicciones y angustias, y habéis dicho: No, sino pon rey sobre nosotros. Ahora, pues, presentaos delante de Jehová por vuestras tribus y por vuestros millares.

20 Y haciendo Samuel que se acercasen todas las tribus de Israel, fue tomada la tribu de Benjamín. 21 E hizo llegar la tribu de Benjamín por sus familias, y fue tomada la familia de Matri; y de ella fue tomado Saúl hijo de Cis. Y le buscaron, pero no fue hallado. 22 Preguntaron, pues, otra vez a Jehová si aún no había venido allí aquel varón. Y respondió Jehová: He aquí que él está escondido entre el bagaje. 23 Entonces corrieron y lo trajeron de allí; y puesto en medio del pueblo, desde los hombros arriba era más alto que todo el pueblo. 24 Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: ¿Habéis visto al que ha elegido Jehová, que no hay semejante a él en todo el pueblo? Entonces el pueblo clamó con alegría, diciendo: ¡Viva el rey!

25 Samuel recitó luego al pueblo las leyes del reino, y las escribió en un libro, el cual guardó delante de Jehová. 26 Y envió Samuel a todo el pueblo cada uno a su casa. Saúl también se fue a su casa en Gabaa, y fueron con él los hombres de guerra cuyos corazones Dios había tocado. 27 Pero algunos perversos dijeron: ¿Cómo nos ha de salvar este? Y le tuvieron en poco, y no le trajeron presente; mas él disimuló.

10 Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head. Then he kissed him and said, “Has Adonai not anointed you ruler over His inheritance? 2 When you leave me today, you will find two men near the tomb of Rachel in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah, and they will say to you: ‘The donkeys you set out to look for have been found—behold, your father has dropped the matter about the donkeys and is worried about you saying, “What should I do about my son?’” 3 Then you will go on from there until you reach the terebinth of Tabor, and there three men going up to God at Beth-el will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and the other carrying a jug of wine. 4 Then they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you will receive from their hand. 5 After that, you will arrive at the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. It will come about, as soon as you enter the town, that you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by a harp, a tambourine and a flute, and they will be prophesying. 6 Then the Ruach of Adonai will seize you and you will prophesy with them—you will turn into another man. 7 Now when these signs happen to you, do for yourself what the occasion requires, for God is with you. 8 Afterward, you are to go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice fellowship offerings. Seven days you will wait, until I come to you and instruct you what you should do.”

9 Then it happened, as Saul turned his back to leave Samuel, that God transformed his heart, and all those signs came to pass that day. 10 When they arrived there, at the hill, behold, a band of prophets did meet him, and suddenly, the Ruach of God overtook him, and subsequently, he prophesied among them. 11 So when all who knew him formerly saw him prophesying with the prophets, they said one to another, “What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?” 12 (Someone there asked, “Who is their father?”) Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?” 13 When he finished prophesying, he came to the high place.

14 Now Saul’s uncle asked him and his servant, “Where did you go?” And he said, “To look for the donkeys. But when we saw that they could not be found, we went to Samuel.”

15 Saul’s uncle said, “Tell me now, what did Samuel say to you?”

16 “He assured us that the donkeys had been found,” Saul said to his uncle. But concerning the matter of kingship about which Samuel spoke, he told him nothing.

17 Then Samuel summoned the people to Adonai at Mizpah. 18 He said to Bnei-Yisrael, “Thus says Adonai, God of Israel: I brought Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you. 19 But today you have spurned your God, who is your deliverer from all your calamities and your distresses. For you said to Him: ‘No! Rather set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before Adonai by your tribes and by your thousands.”

20 So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. 21 Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin by its clans, and the clan of the Matrites was chosen. Finally, Saul son of Kish was chosen. But when they looked for him, he could not be found. 22 Therefore, they inquired of Adonai further, “Has the man come here yet?” Adonai answered, “He has just hidden himself among the baggage.” 23 So they ran and brought him from there. When he stood among the people, he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders up.

24 Then Samuel announced to all the people, “Do you see the one Adonai has chosen? Surely there is no one like him among all the people!”

Then all the people shouted and said, “Long live the king!” 25 Then Samuel explained to the people the rules of kingship, wrote them in a scroll and placed it before Adonai. Then Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. 26 Saul also went home to Gibeah, accompanied by men of valor whose hearts God had touched. 27 But certain worthless men said, “How can this one save us?” So they despised him and brought him no present. But he kept silent.

2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

14 And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

15 And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

17 And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh;

18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22 Therefore they enquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the Lord hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.
