3 Taun-taon, pumupunta si Elkana sa Shilo upang sumamba at mag-alay ng mga handog kay Yahweh na Makapangyarihan sa lahat. Naglilingkod doon bilang mga pari ni Yahweh ang mga anak ni Eli na sina Hofni at Finehas. 4 Tuwing maghahandog si Elkana, binibigyan niya ng tig-iisang bahagi si Penina at ang mga anak nito. 5 Ngunit mga natatanging bahagi ang ibinibigay niya kay Ana sapagkat mahal na mahal niya ito bagama't[a] hindi ipinahintulot ni Yahweh na ito'y magkaanak.

3 Year after year(A) this man went up from his town to worship(B) and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh,(C) where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli,(D) were priests of the Lord. 4 Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice,(E) he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.(F) 5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion(G) because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb.(H)

4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb.
