3 Now this man used to go up year by year from his town to worship and to sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests of the Lord. 4 On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters; 5 but to Hannah he gave a double portion,[a] because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb.

3 Year after year(A) this man went up from his town to worship(B) and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh,(C) where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli,(D) were priests of the Lord. 4 Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice,(E) he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.(F) 5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion(G) because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb.(H)

3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.
4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb.
