¹⁵ Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.^(A)

⁶ So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord. They fasted that day and said, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.^(A)

¹⁶ Then the Lord raised up judges who delivered them out of the power of those who plundered them.^(A)

²⁰ for about four hundred fifty years. After that he gave them judges until the time of the prophet Samuel.^{(A) 21} Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years.^(B)

Death of Samuel

25 Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah.

Then David got up and went down to the wilderness of Paran.^(A)

¹¹ And the Lord sent Jerubbaal and Barak,^[a] and Jephthah, and Samson^[b] and rescued you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.^(A)

Samuel’s Farewell Address

12 Samuel said to all Israel, “I have listened to you in all that you have said to me and have set a king over you.^(A)

¹⁰ The spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel; he went out to war, and the Lord gave King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram into his hand, and his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim.^{(A) 11} So the land had rest forty years. Then Othniel son of Kenaz died.
