¹⁵ And Samuel ^(A)judged Israel all the days of his life.

⁶ So they gathered together at Mizpah, ^(A)drew water, and poured it out before the Lord. And they ^(B)fasted that day, and said there, ^(C)“We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah.

¹⁶ Nevertheless, ^(A)the Lord raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

²⁰ “After that ^(A)He gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, ^(B)until Samuel the prophet. ^21 (C)And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them ^(D)Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

Death of Samuel

25 Then ^(A)Samuel died; and the Israelites gathered together and ^(B)lamented for him, and buried him at his home in Ramah. And David arose and went down ^(C)to the Wilderness of ^[a]Paran.

¹¹ And the Lord sent ^[a]Jerubbaal, ^[b]Bedan, ^(A)Jephthah, and ^(B)Samuel,^[c] and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and you dwelt in safety.

Samuel’s Address at Saul’s Coronation

12 Now Samuel said to all Israel: “Indeed I have ^[a]heeded ^(A)your voice in all that you said to me, and ^(B)have made a king over you.

^10 (A)The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim. ¹¹ So the land had rest for forty years. Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
