^15 (A)Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

⁶ So they gathered at ^(A)Mizpah ^(B)and drew water and poured it out before the Lord ^(C)and fasted on that day and said there, ^(D)“We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.

The Lord Raises Up Judges

^16 (A)Then the Lord raised up judges, ^(B)who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

²⁰ All this took about 450 years. And after that ^(A)he gave them judges until ^(B)Samuel the prophet. ²¹ Then ^(C)they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul ^(D)the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

The Death of Samuel

25 ^(A)Now Samuel died. And all Israel assembled ^(B)and mourned for him, and they buried him ^(C)in his house at ^(D)Ramah.

Then David rose and went down to ^(E)the wilderness of Paran.

¹¹ And the Lord sent ^(A)Jerubbaal ^(B)and Barak^{[a] (C)}and Jephthah and ^(D)Samuel and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.

Samuel's Farewell Address

12 And Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have obeyed ^(A)your voice in all that you have said to me ^(B)and have made a king over you.

^10 (A)The Spirit of the Lord was upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand. And his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. ^11 (B)So the land had rest forty years. Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
