¹⁰ While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to engage Israel in battle. But that day the Lord thundered^(A) with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic^(B) that they were routed before the Israelites.

¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest^(A) now? I will call^(B) on the Lord to send thunder^(C) and rain.^(D) And you will realize what an evil^(E) thing you did in the eyes of the Lord when you asked for a king.”

¹⁰ The Lord threw them into confusion^(A) before Israel,^(B) so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely at Gibeon.^(C) Israel pursued them along the road going up to Beth Horon^(D) and cut them down all the way to Azekah^(E) and Makkedah.^(F)

⁶ So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:^(A) ‘Not^(B) by might nor by power,^(C) but by my Spirit,’^(D) says the Lord Almighty.

³ He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted^(A) or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. ⁴ For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you^(B) to fight^(C) for you against your enemies to give you victory.^(D)”

¹⁸ Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder^(A) and a severe earthquake.^(B) No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth,^(C) so tremendous was the quake. ¹⁹ The great city^(D) split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered^(E) Babylon the Great^(F) and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.^{(G) 20} Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.^{(H) 21} From the sky huge hailstones,^(I) each weighing about a hundred pounds,^[a] fell on people. And they cursed God^(J) on account of the plague of hail,^(K) because the plague was so terrible.
