7 And the men of Kiriath-jearim came and took up the ark of the Lord and brought it to the house of ^(A)Abinadab on the hill. And they consecrated his son Eleazar to have charge of the ark of the Lord.

Uzzah and the Ark

^5 (A)So David assembled all Israel ^(B)from the ^(C)Nile^[a] of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God ^(D)from Kiriath-jearim. ^6 (E)And David and all Israel went up to ^(F)Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim that belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord who ^(G)sits enthroned above the cherubim. ⁷ And they carried the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of ^(H)Abinadab, and Uzzah and Ahio^[b] were driving the cart.

² And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from ^(A)Baale-judah ^(B)to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts ^(C)who sits enthroned on the cherubim. ³ And they carried the ark of God ^(D)on a new cart and brought it ^(E)out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio,^[a] the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, ⁴ with the ark of God,^[b] and Ahio went before the ark.

²¹ So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of ^(A)Kiriath-jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and take it up to you.”

¹⁴ Then the boundary goes in another direction, turning on the ^(A)western side southward from the mountain that lies to the south, opposite Beth-horon, and it ends at Kiriath-baal (^(B)that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city belonging to the people of Judah. This forms the western side.
