⁴ Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through,^(A) or these uncircumcised^(B) fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.”

But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

⁹ “Then he said to me, ‘Stand here by me and kill me!^(A) I’m in the throes of death, but I’m still alive.’

¹⁰ “So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown^(B) that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord.”

⁶ “I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,^(A)” the young man said, “and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and their drivers in hot pursuit.

⁵⁴ Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and kill me,^(A) so that they can’t say, ‘A woman killed him.’” So his servant ran him through, and he died.

²⁷ As for the other events of Omri’s reign, what he did and the things he achieved, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

²³ When Ahithophel saw that his advice^(A) had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his house in order^(B) and then hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.

¹⁴ David asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?^(A)”

³⁶ Your servant has killed both the lion^(A) and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.

²⁶ David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace^(A) from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised^(B) Philistine that he should defy^(C) the armies of the living^(D) God?”
