¹³ Then they took their bones and ^(A)buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, ^(B)and fasted seven days.

¹² Then David went and took the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the men of ^(A)Jabesh Gilead who had stolen them from the street of ^[a]Beth Shan, where the ^(B)Philistines had hung them up, after the Philistines had struck down Saul in Gilboa. ¹³ So he brought up the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from there; and they gathered the bones of those who had been hanged. ¹⁴ They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in ^(C)Zelah, in the tomb of Kish his father. So they performed all that the king commanded. And after that ^(D)God heeded the prayer for the land.

¹⁰ Then they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and they ^(A)mourned there with a great and very solemn lamentation. ^(B)He observed seven days of mourning for his father.

Saul Murders the Priests

⁶ When Saul heard that David and the men who were with him had been discovered—now Saul was staying in ^(A)Gibeah under a tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants standing about him—

^4 (A)Then the men of Judah came, and there they ^(B)anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, ^(C)“The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.” ⁵ So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, ^(D)“You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him.

¹² And they ^(A)mourned and wept and ^(B)fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the ^(C)people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

⁸ Now ^(A)Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called ^[a]Allon Bachuth.
