¹⁵ And David said to him, “Will you take me down to this band?” And he said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will take you down to this ^(A)band.”

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord God: As I live, surely it is my oath that he despised, and my covenant that he broke. I will return it upon his head.

^16 (A)“As I live, declares the Lord God, surely ^(B)in the place where the king dwells ^(C)who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant with him he broke, in Babylon he shall die.

^13 (A)And he took one of the royal offspring^{[a] (B)}and made a covenant with him, ^(C)putting him under oath (^(D)the chief men of the land he had taken away),

⁶ Then Achish called David and said to him, ^(A)“As the Lord lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that ^(B)you should march out and in with me in the campaign. For I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not approve of you.

¹⁹ But all the leaders said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them. ²⁰ This we will do to them: let them live, lest ^(A)wrath be upon us, ^(B)because of the oath that we swore to them.”

¹⁵ And Joshua ^(A)made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore to them.

¹² Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that, as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and ^(A)give me a sure sign

^15 (A)“You shall not give up to his master a slave^[a] who has escaped from his master to you. ¹⁶ He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he shall choose within one of your towns, wherever it suits him. You shall not wrong him.
