David’s Conflict with the Amalekites

30 Now it happened, when David and his men came to ^(A)Ziklag, on the third day, that the ^(B)Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire,

¹¹ So David and his men rose early to depart in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. ^(A)And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

^7 (A)And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from ^(B)Havilah all the way to ^(C)Shur, which is east of Egypt.

⁴ But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; so the princes of the Philistines said to him, ^(A)“Make this fellow return, that he may go back to the place which you have appointed for him, and do not let him go down with us to ^(B)battle, lest ^(C)in the battle he become our adversary. For with what could he reconcile himself to his master, if not with the heads of these ^(D)men?

⁸ And David and his men went up and raided ^(A)the Geshurites, ^(B)the ^[a]Girzites, and the ^(C)Amalekites. For those nations were the inhabitants of the land from ^[b]of old, ^(D)as you go to Shur, even as far as the land of Egypt. ⁹ Whenever David ^[c]attacked the land, he left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the apparel, and returned and came to Achish. ¹⁰ Then Achish would say, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David would say, “Against the southern area of Judah, or against the southern area of ^(E)the Jerahmeelites, or against the southern area of ^(F)the Kenites.”

⁶ But the Lord said to Joshua, ^(A)“Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. You shall ^(B)hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

² on the third day, behold, it happened that ^(A)a man came from Saul’s camp ^(B)with his clothes ^[a]torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he ^(C)fell to the ground and prostrated himself.

⁶² Now Isaac came from the way of ^(A)Beer Lahai Roi, for he dwelt in the South.
