⁴ Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!”^[a] and he said, “Here I am!”^(A)

⁶ and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. ⁷ To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.^{(A) 8} To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit,^{(B) 9} to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,^{(C) 10} to another the working of powerful deeds, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.^{(D) 11} All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.^(E)

⁸ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”^(A)

⁴ When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

The Command to Sacrifice Isaac

22 After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

¹⁵ But when the one^[a] who had set me apart before I was born and called me through his grace was pleased^{(A) 16} to reveal his Son to me,^[b] so that I might proclaim him among the gentiles, I did not confer with any human,^(B)

²⁸ And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues.^(A)

⁴ He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”^(A)
