⁹ But the woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off^(A) the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why have you set a trap^(B) for my life to bring about my death?”

³ Now Samuel was dead,^(A) and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah.^(B) Saul had expelled^(C) the mediums and spiritists^(D) from the land.

⁷ As soon as the king of Israel read the letter,^(A) he tore his robes and said, “Am I God?^(B) Can I kill and bring back to life?^(C) Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel^(D) with me!”

¹³ And if I had put my life in jeopardy^[a]—and nothing is hidden from the king^(A)—you would have kept your distance from me.”
