¹⁰ And Saul swore to her by the Lord, saying, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.”

¹¹ Then she said, “Please let the king remember the Lord your God, and do not permit ^(A)the avenger of blood to destroy anymore, lest they destroy my son.”

And he said, ^(B)“As the Lord lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.”

²³ He also swore to her, ^(A)“Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”

⁷² But again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man!”

⁶ So Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”

³⁹ For ^(A)as the Lord lives, who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But not a man among all the people answered him.

¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter ^(A)pass^[a] through the fire, ^(B)or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, ^11 (C)or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or ^(D)one who calls up the dead. ¹² For all who do these things are ^[b]an abomination to the Lord, and ^(E)because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.

⁵ For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
