⁶ Then David said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Joab's brother ^(A)Abishai the son of Zeruiah, ^(B)“Who will go down with me into the camp to Saul?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”

¹⁰ But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant. ^11 (A)And you shall hear what they say, and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” ^(B)Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outposts of the armed men who were in the camp.

¹⁸ And the ^(A)three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was ^(B)as swift of foot as a wild gazelle.

¹⁵ Ozem the sixth, ^(A)David the seventh. ¹⁶ And their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. ^(B)The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three.

^39 (A)Uriah the Hittite: thirty-seven in all.

¹⁸ Now Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the thirty.^[a] And he wielded his spear against three hundred men^[b] and killed them and won a name beside the three.

⁵ And the king ordered Joab and Abishai and Ittai, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” ^(A)And all the people heard when the king gave orders to all the commanders about Absalom.

⁹ Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this ^(A)dead dog ^(B)curse my lord the king? Let me go over and take off his head.” ¹⁰ But the king said, ^(C)“What have I to do with you, ^(D)you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David,’ who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’”

^9 (A)Why have you despised the word of the Lord, ^(B)to do what is evil in his sight? ^(C)You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and ^(D)have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

²⁴ Then the archers shot at your servants from the wall. Some of the king's servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.”
