²⁶ Now then, my lord, ^(A)as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, because ^(B)the Lord has restrained you from bloodguilt and from ^(C)saving with your own hand, now then ^(D)let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal.

³² The king said to the Cushite, ^(A)“Is it well with the young man Absalom?” And the Cushite answered, ^(B)“May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up against you for evil be like that young man.”

¹⁹ Beloved, ^(A)never avenge yourselves, but leave it^[a] to the wrath of God, for it is written, ^(B)“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” ²⁰ To the contrary, ^(C)“if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”

⁶ Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning ^(A)against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her.

³⁰ For we know him who said, ^(A)“Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, ^(B)“The Lord will judge his people.”

Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was ^(A)Belteshazzar, was ^(B)dismayed for a while, and ^(C)his thoughts alarmed him. The king answered and said, “Belteshazzar, let not the dream or the interpretation alarm you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, ^(D)may the dream be for those who hate you ^(E)and its interpretation for your enemies!

³³ Blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you, ^(A)who have kept me this day from bloodguilt ^(B)and from working salvation with my own hand! ³⁴ For as surely ^(C)as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, ^(D)who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there had not been left to Nabal so much as one male.”
