David Saves the City of Keilah

23 Now they told David, “The Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.”^(A)

⁴⁴ Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah: nine towns with their villages.

¹⁷ After him the Levites made repairs: Rehum son of Bani; next to him Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of^[a] Keilah, made repairs for his district. ¹⁸ After him their kin made repairs: Binnui,^[b] son of Henadad, ruler of half the district of^[c] Keilah;

⁴ They would encamp against them and destroy the produce of the land, as far as the neighborhood of Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel, nor any sheep or ox or donkey.^(A)

⁵¹ It shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed, leaving you neither grain, wine, and oil nor the increase of your cattle and the issue of your flock, until it has made you perish.^(A)

³³ A people whom you do not know shall eat up the fruit of your ground and of all your labors; you shall be continually abused and crushed^(A)

¹⁶ I in turn will do this to you: I will bring terror on you, consumption and fever that waste the eyes and cause life to pine away. You shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.^(A)

The Call of Gideon

¹¹ Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.^(A)
