David Saves Keilah

23 When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah^(A) and are looting the threshing floors,”^(B)

¹⁷ Next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites under Rehum son of Bani. Beside him, Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah,^(A) carried out repairs for his district. ¹⁸ Next to him, the repairs were made by their fellow Levites under Binnui^[a] son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah.

⁴ They camped on the land and ruined the crops^(A) all the way to Gaza^(B) and did not spare a living thing for Israel, neither sheep nor cattle nor donkeys.

⁵¹ They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine^(A) or olive oil,^(B) nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined.^(C)

³³ A people that you do not know will eat what your land and labor produce, and you will have nothing but cruel oppression^(A) all your days.^(B)

¹⁶ then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever^(A) that will destroy your sight and sap your strength.^(B) You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.^(C)

¹¹ The angel of the Lord^(A) came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah^(B) that belonged to Joash^(C) the Abiezrite,^(D) where his son Gideon^(E) was threshing^(F) wheat in a winepress^(G) to keep it from the Midianites.
