⁶ The news of his arrival in Judah soon reached Saul. At the time, the king was sitting beneath the tamarisk tree on the hill at Gibeah, holding his spear and surrounded by his officers.

³³ Then Saul hurled his spear at Jonathan, intending to kill him. So at last Jonathan realized that his father was really determined to kill David.

⁹ But one day when Saul was sitting at home, with spear in hand, the tormenting spirit^[a] from the Lord suddenly came upon him again. As David played his harp,

¹⁰ The very next day a tormenting spirit^[a] from God overwhelmed Saul, and he began to rave in his house like a madman. David was playing the harp, as he did each day. But Saul had a spear in his hand,

⁵ She would sit under the Palm of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites would go to her for judgment.

³³ Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God.^[a]
