^20 (A)Now one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, ^(B)escaped and fled after David.

⁶ Now it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech ^(A)fled to David at Keilah, that he went down with an ephod in his hand.

^7 (A)Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And ^(B)Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

Abiathar Exiled, Joab Executed

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to ^(A)Anathoth, to your own fields, for ^[a]you are deserving of death; but I will not put you to death at this time, ^(B)because you carried the ark of the Lord God before my father David, and because you were afflicted every time my father was afflicted.” ²⁷ So Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, that he might ^(C)fulfill the word of the Lord which He spoke concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh.

⁹ When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, ^(A)he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”

¹⁹ and suddenly a great wind came from ^[a]across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

Death of Eli

¹² Then a man of Benjamin ran from the battle line the same day, and ^(A)came to Shiloh with his clothes torn and ^(B)dirt on his head.

³³ But any of your men whom I do not cut off from My altar shall consume your eyes and grieve your heart. And all the descendants of your house shall die in the flower of their age.

¹⁵ when the ^[a]Sabeans ^[b]raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

¹⁶ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and ^[c]consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

¹⁷ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

²⁵ Sheva was scribe; ^(A)Zadok and Abiathar were the priests;
