¹⁸ Then the king said to Doeg, “You turn and strike the priests.” And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, ^(A)and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.

^10 (A)And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority ^(B)from the chief priests, but ^(C)when they were put to death I cast my vote against them. ¹¹ And ^(D)I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them ^(E)blaspheme, and ^(F)in raging fury against them I ^(G)persecuted them even to foreign cities.

²¹ But ^(A)they conspired against him, ^(B)and by command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord.

¹² On that day I will fulfill against Eli ^(A)all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. ^13 (B)And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, ^(C)because his sons were blaspheming God,^{[a] (D)}and he did not restrain them. ¹⁴ Therefore I swear to the house of Eli ^(E)that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”

³⁶ And everyone who is left in your house shall come to implore him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread and shall say, “Please put me in one of the priests' places, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”
