¹² Now David ^(A)took these words ^[a]to heart, and was very much afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

David Flees to Gath

¹⁰ Then David arose and fled that day from before Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

⁷ And the men of the place asked about his wife. And ^(A)he said, “She is my sister”; for ^(B)he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” because he thought, “lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she is ^(C)beautiful to behold.”

¹¹ And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are ^(A)a woman of beautiful countenance. ¹² Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they ^(B)will kill me, but they will let you live. ^13 (C)Please say you are my ^(D)sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that ^[a]I may live because of you.”
