³² Then Jonathan answered Saul his father, ^(A)“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”

²³ And he said, “Why? ^(A)What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”

⁵ For ^(A)he took his life in his hand ^(B)and he struck down the Philistine, ^(C)and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against ^(D)innocent blood by killing David without cause?”

²² A third time he said to them, “Why? ^(A)What evil has he done? ^(B)I have found in him no guilt deserving death. ^(C)I will therefore punish and release him.”

^51 (A)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(B)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?”

³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that ^(A)the same event happens to all. Also, the hearts of the children of man are full of evil, and ^(B)madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
