³⁶ Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread and plead,^(A) “Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat.^(B)”’”

²⁷ So Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood of the Lord, fulfilling^(A) the word the Lord had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli.

¹³ And you say, ‘What a burden!’^(A) and you sniff at it contemptuously,^(B)” says the Lord Almighty.

“When you bring injured, lame or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices,^(C) should I accept them from your hands?”^(D) says the Lord.

¹⁰ “‘The Levites who went far from me when Israel went astray^(A) and who wandered from me after their idols must bear the consequences of their sin.^{(B) 11} They may serve in my sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and serving in it; they may slaughter the burnt offerings^(C) and sacrifices for the people and stand before the people and serve them.^{(D) 12} But because they served them in the presence of their idols and made the people of Israel fall^(E) into sin, therefore I have sworn with uplifted hand^(F) that they must bear the consequences of their sin, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(G)

²⁹ Why do you^[a] scorn my sacrifice and offering^(A) that I prescribed for my dwelling?^(B) Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’

³⁰ “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.^(C)’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor,^(D) but those who despise^(E) me will be disdained.^(F)
