³² and you will see distress^(A) in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age.^(B)

⁴ This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem,^(A) each of them with cane in hand because of their age.

¹¹ The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.^(A)

²⁶ To Abiathar^(A) the priest the king said, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth.^(B) You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark^(C) of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and shared all my father’s hardships.”^{(D) 27} So Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood of the Lord, fulfilling^(E) the word the Lord had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli.

²² She said, “The Glory^(A) has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.”^(B)

⁴ So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim.^(A) And Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
