Eli’s Wicked Sons

¹² Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard^(A) for the Lord.

²⁸ Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over^(A) to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. ²⁹ They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,^{(B) 30} slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;^(C)

¹⁵ What harmony is there between Christ and Belial^[a]?^(A) Or what does a believer^(B) have in common with an unbeliever?^(C)

¹⁰ After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.^(A)

²¹ For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.^(A)

³ They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.^(A)

⁵⁵ Though you do not know him,^(A) I know him.^(B) If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.^(C)
