⁷ And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence ^(A)as before.

¹³ So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand. ^(A)And he went out and came in before the people.

² And Saul took him that day ^(A)and would not let him return to his father's house.

²¹ And David came to Saul ^(A)and entered his service. And Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer.

¹⁰ The next day ^(A)a harmful spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and ^(B)he raved within his house while David was ^(C)playing the lyre, as he did day by day. ^(D)Saul had his spear in his hand.

³³ For ^(A)a burning place^[a] has long been prepared; indeed, for the king it is made ready, ^(B)its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; ^(C)the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.

² In times past, even when Saul was king, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord your God said to you, ^(A)‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over my people Israel.’”

¹⁰ But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but ^(A)I am slow of speech and of tongue.”

² And Jacob saw ^(A)that Laban did not regard him with favor as before.
