⁴ Thus Jonathan ^(A)spoke well of David to Saul his father, and said to him, “Let not the king ^(B)sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you.

²² And Reuben answered them, saying, ^(A)“Did I not speak to you, saying, ‘Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now ^(B)required of us.”

³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, ^(A)“Why should he be killed? What has he done?”

¹⁴ So Ahimelech answered the king and said, “And who among all your servants is as ^(A)faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, who goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house?

¹² But ^(A)when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
