²⁴ He, too, stripped off his clothes, and he, too, fell into a frenzy before Samuel. He lay naked all that day and all that night. Therefore it is said, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

The Doom of the Cities of Judah

² at that time the Lord had spoken to Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, “Go and loose the sackcloth from your loins and take your sandals off your feet,” and he had done so, walking naked and barefoot.^(A)

²⁰ David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ maids, as any vulgar fellow might shamelessly uncover himself!”^(A)

¹⁰ When they were going from there to Gibeah,^[a] a band of prophets met him, and the spirit of God possessed him, and he fell into a prophetic frenzy along with them.^{(A) 11} When all who knew him before saw how he prophesied with the prophets, the people said to one another, “What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”^{(B) 12} A man of the place answered, “And who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

²¹ All who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem among those who invoked this name? And has he not come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?”^(A)

¹⁴ David danced before the Lord with all his might; David was girded with a linen ephod.^(A)
