²⁷ David rose and went, along with his men, and killed one hundred^[a] of the Philistines, and David brought their foreskins, which were given in full number to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. Saul gave him his daughter Michal as a wife.^(A)

¹⁴ Then David sent messengers to Saul’s son Ishbaal,^[a] saying, “Give me my wife Michal, to whom I became engaged at the price of one hundred foreskins of the Philistines.”^(A)

¹³ So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand, and David marched out and came in, leading the army.^(A)

¹⁹ Then the spirit of the Lord rushed on him, and he went down to Ashkelon. He killed thirty men of the town, took their spoil, and gave the festal garments to those who had explained the riddle. In hot anger he went back to his father’s house.^(A)
