^12 (A)Saul was afraid of David because ^(B)the Lord was with him ^(C)but had departed from Saul.

¹⁵ Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am in great distress, for the Philistines are warring against me, and ^(A)God has turned away from me and ^(B)answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams. Therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do.”

²⁹ Saul was even more afraid of David. So Saul was David's enemy continually.

¹⁵ And when Saul saw that ^(A)he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him.

¹⁸ One of the young men answered, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, ^(A)a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, ^(B)and the Lord is with him.”

¹³ Then Samuel took ^(A)the horn of oil ^(B)and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. ^(C)And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

David in Saul's Service

^14 (D)Now the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, ^(E)and a harmful spirit from the Lord tormented him.

²⁵ And as he reasoned ^(A)about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. ^(B)When I get an opportunity I will summon you.”

⁹ “And the patriarchs, ^(A)jealous of Joseph, ^(B)sold him into Egypt; but ^(C)God was with him

³⁷ Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes ^(A)asked him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.
