⁴³ So the Philistine ^(A)said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

¹³ So Hazael said, “But what ^(A)is your servant—a dog, that he should do this gross thing?”

And Elisha answered, ^(B)“The Lord has shown me that you will become king over Syria.”

⁸ Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such ^(A)a dead dog as I?”

⁸ Then Abner became very angry at the words of Ishbosheth, and said, “Am I ^(A)a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman?

¹⁴ After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? ^(A)A dead dog? ^(B)A flea?

⁹ Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this ^(A)dead dog ^(B)curse my lord the king? Please, let me go over and take off his head!”

²⁷ So they went out into the fields, and gathered grapes from their vineyards and trod them, and ^[a]made merry. And they went into ^(A)the house of their god, and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.

¹¹ ‘Look, a people has come out of Egypt, and they cover the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to overpower them and drive them out.’ ”

¹² And God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for ^(A)they are blessed.”

^6 (A)Therefore please come at once, ^(B)curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”
