³⁵ I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.

The Lord Is Faithful

^17 (A)But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, ^(B)so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered ^(C)out of the mouth of the lion. ^18 (D)And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. ^(E)To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!

¹² Thus says the Lord:

^22 (A)My God sent His angel and ^(B)shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”

⁵ So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah.

Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. ⁶ And ^(A)the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

⁴ So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.” ⁵ But he shook off the creature into the fire and ^(A)suffered no harm. ⁶ However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and ^(B)said that he was a god.

²⁰ Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from ^(A)Kabzeel, ^[a]who had done many deeds. ^(B)He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.
