³⁵ I went after him and struck him and delivered it out of his mouth. And if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and struck him and killed him.

¹⁷ But ^(A)the Lord stood by me and ^(B)strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and ^(C)all the Gentiles might hear it. So ^(D)I was rescued ^(E)from the lion's mouth. ¹⁸ The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. ^(F)To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹² Thus says the Lord: ^(A)“As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, ^(B)so shall the people of Israel ^(C)who dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part^[a] of a bed.

²² My God ^(A)sent his angel ^(B)and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless ^(C)before him; ^(D)and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

⁵ Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. ^6 (A)Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

⁴ When ^(A)the native people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, ^(B)“No doubt this man is a murderer. Though he has escaped from the sea, ^(C)Justice^[a] has not allowed him to live.” ⁵ He, however, ^(D)shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. ⁶ They were waiting for him to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw no misfortune come to him, ^(E)they changed their minds and ^(F)said that he was a god.

²⁰ And ^(A)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man^[a] of ^(B)Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds. He struck down two ariels^[b] of Moab. He also went down and struck down a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen.
