³² David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart^(A) on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”

¹⁸ One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse^(A) of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior.^(B) He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with^(C) him.”

Going to War

20 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours,^(A) do not be afraid^(B) of them,^(C) because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with^(D) you. ² When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army. ³ He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted^(E) or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them.

Psalm 27

Of David.

⁹ Only do not rebel^(A) against the Lord. And do not be afraid^(B) of the people of the land,^(C) because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with^(D) us.^(E) Do not be afraid of them.”^(F)

¹² Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.^(A)

⁶ Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised^(A) men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing^(B) can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many^(C) or by few.^(D)”
