²⁶ Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away ^(A)the reproach from Israel? For who is this ^(B)uncircumcised Philistine, that he should ^(C)defy the armies of ^(D)the living God?”

² And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, “On this condition I will make a covenant with you, that I may put out all your right eyes, and bring ^(A)reproach on all Israel.”

^26 (A)For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

³⁶ Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

¹⁰ And the Philistine said, “I ^(A)defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”

⁶ Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these ^(A)uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord ^(B)from saving by many or by few.”

^4 (A)It may be that the Lord your God will hear all the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to ^(B)reproach the living God, and will ^(C)rebuke the words which the Lord your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’ ”

¹⁶ “O Lord, ^(A)according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, ^(B)Your holy mountain; because for our sins, ^(C)and for the iniquities of our fathers, ^(D)Jerusalem and Your people ^(E)are a reproach to all those around us.
