⁷ Saul defeated the Amalekites, from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt.^(A)

⁴⁸ He did valiantly and struck down the Amalekites and rescued Israel out of the hands of those who plundered them.^(A)

¹⁸ They settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria; he settled down^[a] alongside^[b] all his people.^(A)

⁷ The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur.^(A)

⁸ Now David and his men went up and made raids on the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites, for these were the landed settlements from Telam^[a] on the way to Shur and on to the land of Egypt.^(A)

Bitter Water Made Sweet

²² Then Moses ordered Israel to set out from the Red Sea,^[a] and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water.^(A)

¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold,

¹³ but it will not be well with the wicked, neither will they prolong their days like a shadow, because they do not stand in fear before God.^(A)
